Ian shakes his hair, throwing rainwater around the bar’s lobby like a wet dog. “You got a pay phone?”

The bartender points to an empty booth, phone wires poking out from the wall.

Of fucking course.

Nineties country music plays from an honest-to-God jukebox. Uneven floorboards. Red leather stools.

“Storm’s gonna last all damn night. Hope you like Schlitz.” The only other patron mutters without looking up.

“Dead car battery and the best company. How’d I get so—”

Ian freezes. Because the guy looks at him now. Blue eyes. Ebony hair. A surly smirk.

How’d he get so lucky indeed?
