Mickey thought that if he ever fell, it would be off a bridge. Maybe out a window to avoid his father.
Yet here he sat. Waiting. To jump from a motherfucking airplane.
The redheaded instructor tightened a harness, binding them together. “Arms wide, belly down, like we practiced. You got this.”
They shuffled to the edge. Hung their feet into the air. Three taps on his shoulder, then nothing but sky.
Mickey expected fear. Gravity. The pull of death.
With this capable guy strapped to him and the horizon in every direction, Mickey felt weightless. Powerful.
He finally felt free.
