In response to your post about the caterpillar you found, I believe it is a tussock moth, which is usually around come March and April. I'd be wary about touching it, as it's hairs can cause allergic reactions to the skin in some. Believe their diet is mostly oak leaves if I recall correctly. Hope this helps, FalloftheKnights.
Thanks for helping identify it! I just looked up “Tussock Moth” and it does indeed seem to match.
I’m aware that some fuzzy caterpillars can be poisonous or have irritating hairs, so I didn’t poke the caterpillar or anything, I just let it crawl onto my hand. (And, hey, my fingers didn’t feel itchy afterwards so I think I’m safe, haha.)
I remember back in elementary school, there was a big oak tree on the playground and kids would find fuzzy caterpillars near it. Some kids would try to keep the caterpillars as pets but, uh, pencil boxes aren’t really ideal containers for raising caterpillars. ^^; But anyway, I don’t know if there are any oak trees near where I found that caterpillar... Maybe it’s one of the Tussock Moth subspecies that eats plants other than just oak?
