She laughs, a clear bright sound of unbridled joy, in reply to his question. The rain pouring down on them seems to be of no concern to Elenna, as she does not bother even with a hood, unfazed by her sopping wet clothes and hair. She jumps to the next large puddle, splashing muddy water all around and all over her, then explains in her happy laughing voice, “In Evereska the weather is controlled. We don't ever get rain all of a sudden like this, unplanned. It's wonderful!”

She holds out both hands in offering to the drow then and adds, “come join me!”

She doesn't notice immediately when he falls, walking a short distance away. But she turns in time to see him struggling against the river's flow and latch onto the only thing he could, and immediately she runs along the bank of the river towards Dalamus and his boulder.

She curses to herself as she quickly decides what to do next, and as she runs she starts to remove the heavier metal pieces of her armor and drop them on the ground. No sense in immediately sinking and drowning with him. She arrives as close to the other drow as she can reach on land, then stops for a brief moment to plan her exact approach.

“Hold on, I'll be right there!” she calls out, then promptly jumps into the cold water herself.

She isn't the most skilled swimmer either; but she just needs to get close. Truthfully she probably looks anything but a savior, flailing in a manner not dissimilar to Dalamus mere moments ago, but she lets the water carry her, and reaches out and grabs him with both hands just as she otherwise would have passed by.

“Sorry about this,” she says quickly, then looks toward the embankment and calls out the words of a spell; and in the blink of an eye they are out of the water and falling onto solid ground.

Veresa sits up and gasps for breath, then looks over to Dalamus and flashes a grin. “You okay?”

They are genuinely one of my favorite people in the rpc, every version of Dal feels so unique and alive and you can truly feel the love they put into him, and the mun is ALWAYS so exceptionally kind and understanding. BG3 Dal's initial impression of Belthan is easy: Traitor. Enemy. Disgraced Lolthite-turned-Surface-Drow. Could prove dangerous. Now it's a little more confused: Belthan is a Surface Drow, but apparently(?) not an enemy. Clearly has power and skills. He cares for Haleth although Dal believes Belthan doesn't care in The Right Way (aka the Lolthite way). Dal assumes Belthan has ulterior motives for wanting to prevent him from going back to Menzo, like perhaps converting him. Dal doesn't realize that Belthan argues with him because he cares, and Dal just assumes Belthan doesn't like him.

[also from @dalamusrex] Additional to the Belthan one though I might be getting off ask-topic: I recall Belthan telling Dal to respect his elders, and Dal.. KINDA feels a small inclination towards that. Dal perceives Belthan as someone whose approval is useful or desirable to him, possibly because Belthan is the oldest drow of the group. Perhaps partly because he's felt the slightest hint of a paternal or grandpa-like attitude from Belthan. He perceives Belthan as someone he can ask for advice. Sometimes. Though he might disguise his question in an almost "asking for a friend" kinda way.

The instant magic swirls, Alantha leaps off, backing away while trying to look as tall and big as possible, though it looks more like someone has rubbed her with fabric to make her fur stand up. She hisses and spits at him at first, but when he does not make any further movements, Alantha allows herself to sniff the offered hand, all while keeping watchful eyes on Morris. Afterwards, a gentle test bonk against his knuckles, and then a cheek rub. "Friends?"

Anyone, or at least any human, who has ever met Morris would be amazed to see the warmth livening his smile when the kitten's head butts against his hand. He gives her a second, letting her settle, before he kneads a gentle finger against her cheek.

'Yes, friends. I promise.'

Regretfully, his pockets are free from any food which might interest a cat, although that does prompt another thought. He adds slowly,

'If you see any other rats here, please don't hurt them. I know it's fun, but they bite back.'

When the rat turns around, Alantha initially puffs up, fur standing on end while she stands on tippy toes. She's big! She means it!

But then the rat begins darting back and forth, and her eyes get wide as she follows the movement, ears up at attention. Her tail swishes side to side in interest, she crouches down, tests her footing with a few wiggles, then pounces! She grabs the rat in a play bite at the shoulders.

It's only a playful bite, but it's enough. A run-in with some goblins earlier has left this body tired, worn, and even a gentle nip cuts through the magic. The rat form ripples impossibly away, leaving Morris, in human form, lying on the ground pinned down by tiny feline paws.

His instinct is to cast Speak with Animals. There's no time for the ritual, and the kitten looks so small she may not even be able to reply yet, but he feels that making his apology understood must be worth using up a spell. Once it's cast, he props himself up on one side, hoping the kitten won't bolt if he moves slowly.

'It's okay, little thing, it's okay. I won't hurt you.' He holds out his hand, curled up small, towards her nose. 'Sorry to ruin your fun.'

A rat! Alantha the kitten follows, doing her best impression of the tiniest displacer beast stalking its prey. But the closer she gets, the more she realizes.. it's way too big to be prey. A friend, then? Green eyes track its tail curiously as she sneaks closer. Closer.. Closer... There! She pins the end of its tail with a soft paw.

Much as expected, the rat squeaks in alarm and writhes under Alantha's paw, wriggling until it has turned around and can see its attacker.

This is where things get a little strange. Rather than freeze, or try to scamper away, the rat studies the kitten with surprising calm for a few moments and then -- strangest of all -- darts back and forth a little. It's almost as if it wants to... play?
