Q7 what's your favourite way to travel? Is there a mode of travel you haven't done that you want to experience?
Well, let’s see… I’ve been in an aeroplane, sat in a Concorde as well as a B52 bomber, been on a ferry, a hovercraft, a diesel train, a steam train, a yacht, a rowing boat, in a lorry, a petrol car, an electric car, a coach and a bus (both singledecker and doubledecker. Can’t say I fancy being in a rocket; but I’ve never given a canoe or kayak a go. Nor have I operated a forklift truck, and have lost my opportunity to do that. Never mind, eh.
Oops! Forgot to answer the first bit. Nothing beats the excitement of an airport. They always make me want to fly even if I'm just there to pick someone up. But like steam trains, seeing aeroplanes is far more interesting than actually being on one.
Q9 favourite time of day and why?
Do I even have a favourite time of day? Hmm. I used to love late evening because my mind would finally clear, and I could write in peace. Nowadays I just love the opportunity to lounge in bed, I think.
Q14 if you could give a TED talk on anything, what would you talk about?
Funnily enough I was asked a similar question by my youngest son recently, when he asked what would be my subject on Mastermind. Of course hubby immediately suggested David Tennant; but I’m sure there are things I’ve missed out on. My middle son suggested Doctor Who, but there are years of it that I don’t remember and haven’t rewatched since it first broadcast, so I dismissed that one.
I still have memories of suddenly being given a topic to talk about for ten minutes or so, during my GCSE/CSE days… I chose to talk about comets on one of those occasions. So I think I could throw something together last minute.
Erm… I could describe in detail how to send a package via Royal Mail, DHL or FedEx, I suppose. Not riveting stuff but useful information for some. I mean, I spent decades talking about various aspects of maths, so I should be able to land on something, surely? To be honest, I’m far happier answering questions than giving a lecture. Or am happy to listen to someone else explain something or just chat.
