OBASI + NOCTIS - NEW REFERENCES ! ( both characters are butch lesbians, she/he! )

Obasi and Noctis have a relationship that cannot be described in simple terms. They have known each other for over twenty years and have forged a bond that is deeper than most— and they— realize. The two had originally met each other at one of the many garden parks throughout Haderia. When Noctis was not covered in blood in the ring, she was putting her knowledge of botany to the test. Meanwhile, Obasi was merely a hobbyist when it came to plant care. Obasi had visited the garden in hopes of finding an allium flower for her collection, which Noctis gladly aided her in finding. Little did they know, this shared interest would lead to a appetite that would quite never be sated. Their love would become nothing short of an ache. Obasi and Noctis, although not "officially" partners, were responsible for raising Mitsue. Mitsue is not their daughter per-say, and they'd rather not be referred to as her parents, but they providied a life for her when nobody else would. Obasi and Noctis have a shared care for Mitsue and when they cannot see eye to eye, they try their best to for her sake. But that isn’t to say they’re necessarily good role models. Due to their incompetence, Mitsue has been raised with a great deal of emotional inconsistency and a personal division between both Obasi and Noctis.

i can't believe it's been 2 years since i updated obasi and noctis' references! initially i was going to post them separate, but i felt that it would be fitting to share them together. they are an unconvential duo after all. most of what you need to know about them as individuals is written on their reference sheets!

i'm so happy with how far they've come. for anyone who isn't familiar with them, obasi and noctis (and mitsue!) are the protagonists of my crime/horror book "blade in the city".

FULL STORY SYNOPSIS UNDER CUT (and height difference for anyone interested lol)

Obasi and Noctis have a relationship that cannot be described in simple terms. They have known each other for over twenty years and have forged a bond that is deeper than most— and they— realize. The two had originally met each other at one of the many garden parks throughout Haderia. When Noctis was not covered in blood in the ring, she was putting her knowledge of botany to the test. Meanwhile, Obasi was merely a hobbyist when it came to plant care. Obasi had visited the garden in hopes of finding an allium flower for her collection, which Noctis gladly aided her in finding. Little did they know, this shared interest would lead to a appetite that would quite never be sated. Their love would become nothing short of an ache. The two are both very emotionally resistant when it comes to forming close bonds. Obasi has a difficult time allowing herself to be seen and she repeatedly demeans herself because of unresolved troubles that she swallows and swallows, until it eats her up, until she’s nothing but closed off and cold. Noctis projects herself loudly and she wants to be seen despite that she has no real confidence in herself, it’s all a ruse. This has lead to not only a fragile connection, but an inability to fully pursue their emotional needs. They cannot fully love one another until they learn to love themselves. Regardless, Obasi allowed Noctis into her life and vice versa, although they will never get too close for comfort. Noctis fell for Obasi first, but Obasi fell so much harder. They care for each other deeply, trusted each other with secrets and traumas unknown to the world, and they even pursued a small garden together in light of a shared interest. They have much to grow from, and that is where their real story begins…

Noctis leaned back against the desk, crushing whatever papers Obasi had previously been reading. Defeated, the crime lord shifted back in her seat and exhaled miasma towards the other gorilla.

With softened brows, Obasi spoke, “Mind getting out of my way? I was reading those.”

Noctis snorted and rested her arm against her leg. “Weird way to say you’re happy to see me.”

in honor of almost being done with "BITC: bitter medicine" chapter 1, i drew this silly comic of noctis and obasi that's not supposed to be serious. but honestly considering how unserious noctis is, i wouldn't put it past her to say something stupid like she does in the last panel

a short comic featuring oc backstory + the moment obasi and noctis knew they’d be mothers to mitsue. although they had lost so much before finding each other, they found something valuable again when mitsue came into their lives— a real family :)

they would never know of the hardships that lay ahead, but in this moment, none of that really matters. although now, currently, mitsue is all grown up, to obasi and noctis she’ll always be their baby

GO MY YEARNING OLD WOMAN YURI‼️‼️

a warmup sketch from this morning, i’ve had this particular “vibe” in mind for noctis and obasi for a while and finally mustered the motivation to try to realize it. initially this was going to be a scene from the book but it stood well on its own as a brief glimpse into their… complicated situationship relationship :)

while “blade in the city” is a psychological horror/sci-fi book, i can’t deny that noctis and obasi’s intertwined stories are pivotal to the narrative.

The rented room was empty and dignity was fragile. Late hours of the night were fleeting, morning closed in on them like a phantom. Here the two stood beside a bed that was not their own. Sometimes being away from their homes made it all ache less. They didn't do much, only drank and talked until the sun began to rise. Thus, morning brought the reminder of what could not be. There was nothing to talk about once the sun breached the horizon.

Obasi had lost track of how many times they had ended up like this. Obasi never knew where it began or when to end it, only that they were doomed by the time they held one another. Too close for comfort, yet it felt agonizing to be apart. She decided she would try to put an end to it.

"I should go." Obasi murmured, her husky voice dampened to no more than a shallow whisper. Her heart skipped a beat. Bile made its home in her throat.

She felt Noctis’s grasp on her mane loosen, her hand shifted. “But you won't." Noctis trilled. Her voice was null of judgment, yet her piercing gaze gave Obasi a sense of belittling. Not that she minded; Noctis was right. Rather than pulling away from Noctis like she should have, her own hand drifted hazily upwards to hold Noctis.

Obasi remained in silence. She used all the strength that she could to avert her gaze from the shorter animan. Although she had known the Iron Bruiser for decades, inhibition chewed on her conscience. It gnawed on them both, picking apart their minds until there was nothing left besides the sound of hesitant breaths and beating hearts.

"No," Obasi's eyes flickered face Noctis. She held her breath. She didn't want to say goodbye to Noctis, her heart refused it. Her hand squeezed the other's wrist slightly, her voice cracked. "No, I won't."

She tried not to think of what Obasi had told her just days ago when she had taken this fight: “This fight is a death sentence. You’re going to be outmatched.” Noctis practically saw her standing ahead of her, amethyst daggers making an uncomfortable place in her ribs.

Days ago, Obasi advised Noctis to dodge this fight. They both knew this would be a dangerous decision... Or was it? Determined to prove Obasi wrong, Noctis takes the fight anyway, harboring dire results. After Noctis approaches Obasi for some consolation following her bloody victory, it becomes clear to them that this was about far more than just the fight. This "flashback" story provides a glimpse into the past of Obasi, Noctis, and their daughter Mitsue, and the kind of troubles that they face when clashing beliefs, livlihoods, and attitudes collide. There is no right or wrong, only the choice to be better, and what must be done to pursue that choice.

at long last, the first chapter of "BITC: BITTER MEDICINE" is here! there will be a total of four chapters in this short story, which i will be publishing as i complete them. all four chapters are mostly written, i just need to proofread and revise them. this first chapter is mostly expostion and a bit of a proper introduction to who noctis is a character.

i hope you guys enjoy this first chapter and stay tuned for more. this is only the beginning... let's just say things really start to pick up in chapter 2, where noctis faces obasi, and the real conflict begins.
