nodelinquent replied to your post: Anime: *made for a teenage demographic* Y’all: WHY...
I don’t wanna be That Person but…. who do you think created said teenage character and put said teenage character in compromising clothes/positions because I can tell you it wasn’t a fellow teenager.
Shockingly, most mainstream media is created by adults.
An adult writing a teenage character for a teenage demographic doesn’t mean they want to fuck teenagers. It means they’re appealing to the teenage demographic.
Your teenage and young adult years are some of THE most important for exploring sex and sexuality. Teenagers are interested in that sort of thing. Teenagers enjoy looking at whatever sex they’re attracted to. When I was a teenager, I knew I was attracted to boys, and I thought some very impure thoughts about guys in my age group--and while I wouldn’t advocate that teens go out and do it, I even had sex.
It’s healthy to figure yourself out. It’s healthy to look, and fantasize, and fall in love, and fall out of love, and go through all of the ups and downs of being a teen.
So if adults want to appeal to a teenage demographic, that does often mean appealing to the parts of teenage life adults may find a little uncomfortable. As a teen, I appreciated a well-rounded teenage character, but I also appreciated just getting to stare at a cute anime character’s abs every now and then. You appeal to their problems and experiences, but you also appeal to their budding sexualities; you give them an outlet.
(Especially in a country as sanitized as Japan, where sexuality is strictly regulated via social norms and gender roles.)
