Every goddamn time I think about (comic) Peni and (comic) Noir Pete I go. Damn you guys could be perfect foils in a universe where you guys had a crossover that actually cared about your source material. Like. Okay.
Your father dies as he'd lived your entire life, distant and acclaimed - the pilot of the SP//DR. Product of an inherently abusive system, you're set up next, arguably without your consent, to fill his boots once they hose the blood off of his mech. You inherently uphold the society that left you an orphan, the violence that meant he was never home to make you dinner up until his untimely death. You will continue this job, probably until, jaded and tired and too young for this, you will make your last mistake. You just want to be loved, perhaps, and everything you know is a part of this program.
Or, your Uncle dies as he'd lived your entire life, defying the system because he cares far too much to sit on his ass - a man who would gladly risk his life if just to pave the way for other workers' rights. You fill his boots as further defiance to this, and even wearing the visage of a war he hated to have taken part in, you direct the violence it symbolizes right back at the society that made that war - you demand society change, or you will die trying. You can't sit by and watch everything you know continue to burn without a fight.
