I know you sent me this in a knee-jerk reaction to my posts that criticize Israel and support the Palestinian people, but it’s a perfect example of how criticism against Israel and the IDF is being equatedwith antisemitism, most often by far right conservatives.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo just used this same tactic against Cynthia Nixon (despite her wife being Jewish) by sending out mailers saying she’s anti-Semitic by supporting the BDS movement. As far as I know, she’s never said she supports BDS, but it’s still another example of how people will equate any kind of criticism against Israel as antisemitism.

In fact, Jewish people who are critical of Israel’s imperialistic policies are often censured or are banned from entering Israel. The Israeli Ministry of Strategic Affairs banned the leaders of 20 worldwide organizations from Israel (including Jewish groups) because they support BDS.

There are many stark examples of ties between US law enforcement (such as ICE) and the IDF. I lived near the US-Mexico border for many years, and I know the surveillance towers they use are the same ones used on the Israel-Palestine borders. The United States and Israel both need to be critically examined when their policies revolve around oppression and imperialism.

With the general way that Dwarves are portrayed in fantasy series, I’d expect that many of them would be foul-mouthed... but given the two dwarves we do see in the Symphonia universe, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some kind of vow that forbids foul language, haha. They’re both very well-disciplined, it seems. If I’d put Altessa on here, he’d probably be right there beside Dirk.

In my fanon Dwarven Vows list, there aren’t any that explicitly forbid swearing, but there are:

Dwarven Vow 47: “It’s better to be quiet than to sing a bad song.” (If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.) Dwarven Vow 58: “It’s often a man’s mouth that breaks his nose.” (The things you say can get you into trouble.) Dwarven Vow 93: “The good speech of a fool is better than the bad word of a prophet.” (Focus on the content of what’s being said, not who’s saying it.)

However, there’s also:

Dwarven Vow 98: “The moon is none the worse for the dogs’ barking at her.” (Don’t be bothered by what others say about you.) Dwarven Vow 135: “The eyes speak as much as the mouth.” (self-explanatory)

THAT BEING SAID, we see so little of the Dwarves that a lot of their characterization is how you extrapolate those few details. I have a very specific characterization of Dirk in my headcanons, but I could see others take his character a different way too. (Imagine new dad Dirk accidentally cursing in front of tiny Lloyd and then realizing that he should not be doing that once he hears this little toddler saying some of most awful Dwarven swears...)
