TL,DR: Sign this petition and get Disney to bring Johnny Depp back as Captain Jack Sparrow for the next Pirates movie.

Now that Johnny’s name has more or less been cleared on the internet, I think it’s time Disney bring him back for the next Pirates movie. Captain Jack was Johnny’s creation, and no one will be able to play Captain Jack as well as he does. His character is one of the fundamental reasons why the PotC franchise has been so successful, and we know from the post-credits scene in PotC5 that Jack will have to play an essential role in the next film (Davy Jones!). Without Johnny / Jack Sparrow, the series simply will not work.

But I’m sure almost everyone here has already seen the whole list of his co-stars saying how he created Jack, so I’ll add something to highlight how important his character is to the franchise: I’m 16 this year, so when I was a kid, the first 3 Pirates movies were already out. I had never watched them in their entirety up until last year (I had only seen one or two clips of scenes), but I knew who Captain Jack was: the slightly drunk but amazingly smart captain of a pirate ship. Without even watching the movies, I had already loved the whole idea of pirates and swordfighting and sailing the high seas. That’s how big an influence he has in the world of Disney characters: kids can fall in love with his character without ever having ‘met’ him.

Even now, the PotC franchise is still big and successful as ever, and it’s thanks to Johnny, and his creation of the character Captain Jack Sparrow. Many people hold Captain Jack in a dear place in their heart, as a fond childhood memory, or their favourite (Disney) character. His presence in the movies is essential not just to drive the plot forward from here, but to appeal to the audience that has followed the series since its beginning.
