So..... my phone is broken or well the screen and back of it is broken so I’ve decided to get a new one. However instead of a fancy smartphone I’m gonna get this
The Nokia 8110 4G which is a revamp of those old nokia phones. It’s not a smartphone but it does run KaiOS which is based on FirefoxOS and has some features like youtube and google and all sorts of apps.
Now the reason I want this phone
It’s cheap
KaiOS despite having been invested in by Google is independent for the most part and therefore does not have the lingering creepiness of Google’s surveillance.
It does however come with a lot of google shit but thankfully some clever people have learned how to jailbreak this and put a custom firmware that basically has no tracking, no ads, no nonesense.
The apps i use on my phone on a regular basis are tumblr, reddit, youtube, pocketcast, bank app and spotify and all have a KaiOS app or a workaround (like downloading podcasts and music and putting them on my phone before i head out like the olden days)
I’ve done a lot to try to eliminate google’s spying on my laptop ive made it really secure and is why i use linux because microsoft is also spying on people and I think its all for naught if google still sees my phone activity, right?
It may even help reduce my screentime, clear my mind more, all that minimalism goodness.
