It’s not his first day on the job, far from it actually. But it’s the first day he’s actually felt some sort of excitement to be going to the lock up. Bellamy was assigned to that area just a week after the council found out about his little sister. This is his punishment, he’s sure of it. Aurora was floated for having a second child. Octavia was sent to a cell for being that child. And Bellamy is forced to work in that area. It’s been pounded into his skull multiple times that, under no condition, is he allowed to step a foot into her room. He knows which one it is. Every now and again, he can hear her muffled sobs. It’s impossible to even get close. Being in training still, there are other guards constantly at his side.
That’s why, when the blonde tries to strike up some sort of conversation with him, Bellamy is totally silent. There’s no part of him that wants to befriend a delinquent. Even if she doesn’t look like she belongs there. This room is one he enters a lot. Clarke Griffin. Each time, she greets him, and each time, Bellamy ignores her very presence. Simply doing his job. Eventually, the other guards allow him to continue on without them. When his training is finally over. The desire to sneak into Octavia’s room is there, but he doesn’t dare. Bellamy is old enough to be floated for such a crime. So, instead, he tries to be more civil with the blonde girl. It’s the least he can do. Assuming that, if she’s in there for something she had no hand in, like his sister, she deserved to be treated like an actual human.
When the next day arrives, and he makes his rounds, making Clarke’s cell last, the brunette wears a smile. A bit forced, but he’s trying. He notices immediately that this time, it’s Clarke that ignores him. Surely tired of trying. So he comments on her drawings that nearly cover the walls. The two don’t talk much at first, but in time, it comes easier. Each day, he’s sure to see her last. Using up more and more time with her. After a week, he’s even come as far as sitting against her door, and the smile that graces his lips is genuine.
That’s why work has become something he looks forward to. They’ve yet to talk about things personal. But given time, he may open up. Clarke doesn’t know about Octavia. And Bellamy doesn’t know why she’s considered one of the delinquents. He wants to tell her, to find someone he can once again put his trust in. And he wants Clarke to trust him. Even though, he did fail at keeping the most important secret. Maybe he’s not to be trusted. The guilt constantly weighs on him. He’s just gotten good at hiding it.
Eyes search the hallways before he enters, shutting the door behind him and pocketing the small key. “Anything new, today?” It’s a normal question. Even though there’s not much that could be new in this area of the Ark. The delinquents don’t necessarily get out much.
