He should also listen out for that kind of thing and set the example." -Sulley Ali Muntari This despicable behavior amongst football fans in Europe and many parts of the world is nothing new and #FIFA continues to put a band-aid over the festering open soar just hoping it will heal itself without pushing for real action in favor of protecting its money. If FIFA is serious about ending racism in football and protecting its players who are the billion + Euro institution's cash cows- then they must sanction referee Daniele Minelli, who chose not to do his job in honoring FIFA's own regulations to stop the match in the face of racism, but rather added insult to injury in punishing the victim by showing a yellow card to @sulleymuntari for having the audacity to be an upright man in fighting for his dignity that no amount of money can be worth being stripped off. Too many are so uncomfortable with talking about and dealing with the subject of racism head on, and all that does is give shelter and power to the usual practitioners. Too many are so quick to say "well I'm not racist" in their own defense and self-protection but are silent to calling out racism or turn a blind eye when it's right in their face. When Colin Kaepernick stands up to call out racism in America and suddenly becomes black-balled by the #NFL while many pretend it is not an issue of racism and continue to support the NFL - you are indirectly condoning systemic racism to continue. When NBA owners and players do little to nothing in the face of a blatant racist owner and clear imbalance of ownership and leadership in NBA , Football (international and American) and many other sports -where the hired bodies that bring in the money are mostly Black and all the owners of the teams who buy them are white, then how far have we really come from our trans-Atlantic history beyond just adding money to the fuckery? Racism in Europe and around the world is not only a football problem but an innate, taught and inherited cover for mediocrity that so called "white people" regardless of socio-economic class, education or contribution to the world in any significant way use to exert their delusions of grandeur and superiority strictly based on skin color. History ( from the Birmingham Bus Boycott and many similar boycotts around the world) has proven that the only time white people have toned down or made any compromise in reasoning when it comes to their racism is when their money is threatened. If Black players are ever going to make any real impactful change- it will be when they all walk off the pitch, the court etc. in solidarity each time these things happen because disruption and disrespect of Black life should never be accepted as par for the course of play. Non-Black teammates should also take real action in solidarity because just saying and wearing t-shirts that say #NoRacism does nothing beyond bringing awareness to something that all of us have already been aware of even if many try to pretend that it doesn't exist or is a surprise to them each and every time. Sulley Ali Muntari is not just a body and player for hire, he is a human being and a first time father to a son who he has to set an example for and protect from the children of those parents who sit in silence and tolerate racist taunts from their children at what is supposed to be a family friendly event. This is how many of your family friendly gatherings must be because your children show who and what they come from when they publicly and unabashedly act out what they have been taught. How many taunts, disrespect and deaths will it take before many of you recognize that this is not Black people's problem to deal with, but very much a global problem, where the same white people who set up the system of racism to their benefit also must be responsible and diligent in your daily lives to dismantle it - whether you see yourself as not being racist or benefitting from its systematic global structure and institutions- you shouldn't have anymore of a choice in sitting it out to work itself out anymore than Black people have a choice to being born in the skin they are in! Enough with the frivolous gestures of words and even praising a Black man for taking the high road in the face of racism. Enough with selling pins and t-shirts to show solidarity- let's see some real actions where many of you may even have to sacrifice your money and relationships to end this festering disease of mental illness called Racism once and for ALL! #WCW #PretoriaGirlsHS #NoLongerAtEase All around the world there has been an ongoing battle against Black women and girls in our personal choice and agency of our bodies, particularly in our hairstyle choices. This nonsense has to stop whether it is coming from other Black women in the natural hair movement decrying those who choose not to join them or the white supremacy mentality being upheld that says natural hairstyles are unacceptable in our spaces of education and employment. It all constitutes a ridiculous sense of entitlement to take away the personal style choice and freedom from Black women and girls. Why are we more concerned with what's on top of head than the substance underneath? Thank goodness there are so many teens and twenty-somethings who refuse to be bamboozled and okey doked out of their freedom and basic human rights. Zulaika Patel and her fellow students at Pretoria Girls HS, which admitted only white students until the end of Apartheid forced them to integrate, are the future! It is beyond disgraceful that 13y/o so called "born frees" in Mandela's rainbow nation, whom have only known Black presidents and never a life under apartheid have to be hit with the reality check that although Apartheid may have ended 22 years ago, white supremacy still rules South Africa because much like too many other African countries- the Black man has not been able to handle his own affairs when given a chance at power, as Dr. Kwame Nkrumah had hoped would happen in building an independent and self-actualized African continent that would be an example to its Diaspora and the rest of the world. It is beyond disgraceful when African children in Africa are being told that their natural African styles are unacceptable in Africa, while higher learning institutions like Morehouse and so called elite charter schools in our Diaspora also profess the same ideology in upholding white supremacy. We continue to fail our children and the future worldwide and at some point we must be accountable in taking responsibility for building a future that we can be proudly African in-with prosperity, self respect and a true sense of freedom where our choices are our own!
