After what ended up being two weeks due to Val being a somewhat difficult patient, she was finally allowed to leave Viktor's clinic and return to her own apartment, though Vik had certainly made it known that he didn't like the idea of sending her home with Johnny alone. She could walk on her own again, though Vik still suggested she get plenty of rest, and she wasn't allowed to do any heavy lifting or anything too strenuous for at least another week.

She was glad to be back in her own apartment and to finally have some time alone with Johnny. "So," she grinned at him, "are you glad to finally have me all to yourself now...?"

Johnny looked at her, pensive for a moment.   

“I’d really love to, but you’re not gonna pass out on me or anything, right?”

Johnny waited until Misty left before stepping around in front of V, to sit on the ledge with his back to the city. “So.” He started, glancing away from her, over his shoulder at the city behind him. He never realized how beautiful it could be. Swinging a leg over to straddle the ledge, his thoughts were all over the place. He had a few ideas on how to do this with the least amount of casualties. But also, he was considering the best way to save V’s life with the little time they had to make sure her body didn’t reject her. It was too used to him already. “Got anyone ya wanna say goodbye to? Might not get another chance.”

Letting his gaze shift to her, he seemed.. apologetic. The code glitching slightly around him, he wanted to say so much, and as a musician, it was odd that he couldn’t find the words. He probably could’ve if he’d had a guitar.

eyes are widened with sudden adrenaline, causing the man to lift his arms up to the sides, allowing his captor more wiggle room to tighten her embrace from behind. right on cue with some internal mechanism the heart? that was beyond his understanding. had the lord not already known who it was ( he knew in an instant, her scent and the frailty of her hands becoming a welcomed familiarity ) perhaps he might’ve tried to catch a glimpse. but instead, he let his arms lower, and put a hand of his own on top of one of hers, tracing a finger against her skin. head falls back, and shoulders begin to slump as the tension that holds them stiff during long hours of the day slowly begins to come undone. “ hmm, “ heisenberg hummed out, a pleasant song for a man that was quickly growing all too comfortable. “ i wonder who that could be . . . “

Nero had been given the contact details by one of the fixers at the AFTERLIFE, and this one was particularly interesting. She regularly hired out solos, mercs, rockerboys and everything that fell in between for various jobs, but this one was standing out - the fixer had told her this one was the best, and worth the higher price. Normally, she wasn't all that concerned with the quality - pretty much most of the jobs she'd hired out had gone over without a hitch... but this one required someone of a higher caliber.

So it was that she sat down and made the call. Nero wasn't one to procrastinate, after all. Eager was definitely a word she was born into. She activated the holo and dialed in to... V. Just V? Maybe it was short for something, or the laziest pseudonym Nero had seen in a good long while. The name didn't matter, she thought to herself as she waited for the call to be answered. It just mattered that this job got done.

      On nights like this it was hard to understand why the many braindance clubs scattered throughout Night City, were filled. The hot air of the day was dampened beneath an evening rain, leaving a watery warmth filtering throughout the streets. Multi-hued lights reflected off the slick asphalt and for once the entire block seemed at peace. It wouldn’t last, of course, and Fox knew this as she stood outside her favorite convenience store. Awaiting an informant that was twenty minutes too late. As if on cue someone emptied a clip a few blocks down and a hail of sirens filled the night.

      “And just when I thought this night wouldn’t get interesting,” she spoke to no one in particular, but she gave the stranger nearest to her -- a thin woman with a shock of magenta hair and tattoos that told a story -- a conspirators smile. “Don’t suppose you know any of the talk that’s been happening in this neighborhood, do you?”

      he liked his back alley business. in fact, the only thing that was back alley about it was the location, but details. from the little portable television at his bench a boxing match played through, the announcer’s voice bouncing and lilting through the details in rapid-fire description. but vik paid no mind to it, not as much as he usually did, at least. he tinkered with his left hand, adjusting the tool custom to any of night city’s ripperdocs, as he almost always did ---peering through the tinted shades of sunglasses. there was a song about that, some archaic thing he’d heard once on the net.

      and though he didn’t look at v, though he was bent over his own tuning, he was listening. ( some might argue viktor’s bedside manner left something to be desired but those people could, frankly, fuck themselves ). “ yeah, you think so? why’s that? ” ------he wouldn’t even begin to pretend he understood what she was going through. it was hard for vik to imagine someone in night city who got bent-over and ram-rodded as hard as v did, but that was the city. the most he could do was patch up the aftermath, with ( hopefully ) soothing words or the talents of his trade.

"You just what?" Words left him a little TOO bitter, his way of dealing with the situation maybe coming across as harsh. In reality, he was in the same boat as V; terrified, uncertain, T I R E D without much reason to be. Unlike the merc, he wasn't dying at an excess rate, a relic wasn't eating away at his brain. Yet his empathy stretched, coming off as aggressive.

He WANTED her to live. He WANTED the relic to be removed. He WANTED it to be that easy. He WANTED to be able to do more than just fucking sit there, twiddling his thumbs!

"Maybe it is gonna end the same way," Vik began, a determination set deep behind the tinted lenses of his glasses. "But you can still do what you wanna do, V. Take life into your own hands for as long as you can, try to find a way outta this."
