Foot Locker x Diadora x Nom Wah N9002

Foot Locker and Diadora have collaborated with famed, quintessential New York City hospitality brand, Nom Wah for a special sneaker release. Available exclusively at Foot Locker tomorrow Friday, Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. ET. the new drop arrives just in time for Lunar New Year. 

Nom Wah, widely known for turning dim sum into an all-day affair, turns 103 years old this year. Diadora’s special sneaker drop with Nom Wah celebrates the rich culture behind the storied brand. 

The fan-favorite N9002 silhouette takes on classic black and stone-grey colorways across its nylon-suede upper with red and yellow punctuated motifs - inspired by the rich colors of Nom Wah’s iconic logo. The trainer’s toe is highlighted with a bright red adornment to match its accented heel which is also emblazoned by the Diadora’s signature logo. The shoe’s tongue features special dumpling graphics to commemorate the collaboration with the restaurant group. 

The Nom Wah x Diadora N9002 sneaker drop will be available in-store and online only at Foot Locker in men's sizes for $120.

Doyers Street, one of my favorite places to draw (and eat dim sum at Nom Wah Tea Parlor) in NYC--especially now that the street is closed off to traffic and is pedestrian only and there's a mural painted directly in the street. Early last century though, the bend in the Doyers Street became known as the "Bloody Angle" because of numerous killings among the Tong Gangs of Chinatown.

I made this watercolor painting on-site on Doyers Street over the course of two days (three if you count photography). Thanks to everyone who said hi while I was there. Day 1: I made my daily drawing (look back a few days) and then used my cargo bike as an easel for a watercolor block to sketch with a paint marker to make the line drawing late in the afternoon. Day 2: Lunchtime and so much sunnier--I was staring right into the sun in the south. I set up at a table with watercolors to start on the lower half of the painting, and then switched to my bike as easel once the sun shifted. Day 3: Late afternoon photography to get a more dispersed light. This continues a plein air/made-on-location series in NYC over the past year or so with stops in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and Coney Island

Nom Wah opened in 1920 as the first dim sum parlor in NYC Chinatown on Doyers Street. I have painted the restaurant so many times over the years, and am endlessly intrigued.
