Why is there not that many non animated mermaid movies??

Like seriously splash was my movie. (the second one was downright horrible ) there was a point in my life where I obsessed over mermaids endlessly and I ain't talking bout no Ariel. I'd pay big bucks to see a great non animated mermaid movie. Aquamarine was eh. I've spent way too much time searching for mermaid movies that didn't involve them killing their lover and I just want a decent one...
