Society at large is gonna see me the way they wanna see me. Androgynous to the point of confusion, which is how I like being. I like challenging your ideas of what gender is supposed to be. I’m a female who doesn’t conform to the stereotypes your brain has been trained to want to apply to me. I own my femaleness, and I own my lack of gender conformity. I own the fact that they/them pronouns bring me joy because it means you can’t identify what you’re seeing. It means you can’t fit me in the box of what you expect and need womanhood to be. TERFs will say being a non binary AFAB is about internalized misogyny and saying a woman can’t be x,y or z, but for me it’s the opposite. It’s a middle finger to misogynistic ideals and a declaration that I, a female person, reject gender norms so hard that I even reject the conversational language you want to use to separate me by my genitalia & chromosomes. I don’t want that. Call me a person. We can talk about my experiences with womanhood when we’re having a conversation to which that is directly pertinent. Otherwise, you singling it out is foolish and I’ll reject it.
