I do not like Big Bang Theory but today we were trying to figure out ...what is the job of the characters? Most of them have Ph.Ds and they eat lunch everyday at a college cafeteria (who does that, first off?). Are they...professors? PIs? I’ve seen this show on the telly at home some but do students ever come up? Are they post-docs? They don’t seem to go to work? But they do work at Caltech? Doing what? Do they have graduate students? We see Amy do wet work. Is she a post doc? Is she a PI doing her own wet work? Whaaaaat? Why? My best guess is that they’re post docs but it is not clear at all.
How to refer me to a post you want checked
So, this just happened: a while ago an anon reached out to me asking me to check a post on their blog that they wanted help with. I couldn’t get to their blog because they were on anon, so they replied back to me with the name of the blog.
Tumblr won’t allow me to answer privately to this person (I imagine, since they’re on anon), and I probably don’t want to answer publicly since this person wanted to be on anon anyway. So this is for you, “S.N.N.” and anybody else that wants me to check one of their posts so that I don’t miss it.
Your better option is going to be sending me a question (ask). I have a long queue of questions but I will eventually get to them all. In this case, Tumblr won’t allow you to post the link of the post, but what you can do is copy the huge number after the /post/ portion of the address. With that, I’ll be able to find your post. Also, the name of the blog really helps, or if you have a particular tag I can search on, it all helps.
You can mention me on the post. You can type @sciencesideanswers and I’ll get the mention. However, it goes into my queue as well, and since Tumblr doesn’t save them on my inbox, it is up to be to save them in my email and get back to them eventually. This is why it’s a second option. Some people mentioned they’re having issues with editing their posts to do this, so you can reblog it from yourself and mention me on the reblog as well.
Yell loudly at the sky. I am everywhere. I am everything.
Other options I am considering in the future (and I want your feedback):
Also, I don’t have a particular place to receive questions, but I could setup something if you were interested. An email address? A web-form (so that you can ask anonymously?) A shrine?
To consider:
Email: you won’t be able to ask anonymously, since I’ll get your email address. You can always use a fake address but you’d lose the possibility of me answering you back to know when the answer is online.
Web-form: You may ask anonymously, and you could optionally give your tumblr address for me to mention you when the answer is online. Drawbacks: somebody could fake somebody else address and I would never know. So somebody may get some backslash from the readers when they actually didn’t ask anything problematic.
A shrine: No downsides. Build me a shrine.
So, what do you think, Tumblr?
what the fuuuuuuuucckk
Oh god, why does late night internet browsing always lead me to pimple popping. WHY. I CAN'T LOOK AWAY.
Quick life update/vent
What a way to end the crunch week before finals! Sorry, gotta vent, long post. -The Good: I got a "let's hang once your brain stops frying" post finals date, which is nice and self esteem lifting (considering how many 'crash and burns' I've had recently). -The Okay: My grades calculated going into finals: Physics - A Biochem - B Calc 3 - C The feelings go: yay, oh shit, OH SHIT. Plus, there isn't enough wiggle room to pull the last two up, so it's more about MAINTAINING THOSE GRADES. *mouth froths* - The "Uh-Oh": I've lost the flashdrive containing my physics lab loggerpro data. It was the FFT frequency data from this guitar we made, and I was gonna analyze it yesterday because I was very "fuck it I got a paper due" on Monday. Big mistake. Always back up your data to a cloud as well as flash drives. Even when antsy lab partners are watching over your shoulder. The report's due Mon, my lab prof hasn't emailed me back about my issue, and I don't know if the data is still on the school laptops we used. Worse comes to worse, I managed to record one set of freq values in my notebook on Mon before I got pressured to save&quit. I'll confess to my lab partners AFTER our physics test today(cause that'd be cruel, right?) and see if they have any ideas of how we could somehow recover from my mistake. EDIT: got in touch with the Phys lecture prof(long may he prosper), and he'll help me get at the laptops today. FINGERS CROSSED. Did I mention I'm stressed about finances, scholarships, applying for summer research opportunities, asking for letters of rec, organizing my schedule so I can work next semester(as a calc tutor, see why I'm freaked about my calc grade?), making time to MAKE friends, some work from my last REU I never finished, GRE studies? Yep, the stress of the typical science major.
I've seen some very pretty bullet journals on the studyblrs I follow, and just so happen to have an extra mini moleskin. So instead of doing my work, I'll just organize and THINK about being productive :D
