Okay so still thinking about trans Ranger headcanons... what do you think the RPM team's gender journeys were like? Transitioning pre- or post-societal collapse? Struggling with their families? How hard is it to get gender affirming medical care in the apocalypse?
Fantastic questions!
Okay, covering the ones previously discussed:
Ziggy (he/they) - I think he’s always struggled with their gender identity and it was hard to truly transition in the orphanage (partially what pushed him to the cartels - they don’t care what he calls himself as long as their useful) I think eventually Fresno Bob helped him get an ID and stuff with his preferred name and pronouns. When he becomes a Ranger, they’re terrified of being mistreated by the team if/when they find out. Of course, it helps he has Dillon to affirm his identity (and the team obviously accepts him when they do find out!)
Dillon & Tenaya (they/he + they/she) - lumping them together because I think being robots fucked with their gender identity. Dillon does not care about gender or sexuality at all, really. Tenaya struggles to feel like a female or a male when she’s human again.
Dr. K (any/all) - they’re autistic and have never really vibed with the typical female gender presentation (even though she does enjoy cute things, I think that developed over time and it was unlikely she grew up with female-oriented toys) They come into a personal style after Venjix is defeated.
Flynn (he/they/she) - Her dad did not understand him at all. Similar to how being a Ranger helped them connect to their father, it also helped his father see them fully - genderfluidity and all. I think Flynn was already pretty open with Scott and Summer, and then he was able to comfort and support Ziggy when he came out to the team.
Bonus round:
Scott (he/they) - Gender exploration was not okay in his household. I can’t see Col. Truman letting his boys wear dresses or even play with dolls. Scott’s the one that needs the most teaching and coaching as his friends come out around him. But once he understands, he’s so supportive.
Summer (she/they) - Summer leaned heavily into the femme look before being a ranger, even though the frills and the jewels weren’t necessarily her favorite. After becoming a ranger, she felt more free to express herself however she wanted. She’s our gnc baddie for the season.
Gem & Gemma (he/they + she/they) - also autistic and agender. When they eventually do start developing their own individual styles, both are still pretty gender neutral.
I think gender affirming care would be like… black market type shit. Want your hormones? Gotta link up with a cartel. (Hence why Ziggy was on some!) Dr. K also manages to acquire hormones, if the rangers need them.
Hope that answers your question and gives ya some more to think about! Thanks for asking and letting me yap! 😁
