Coach didn’t realise there were so many options and he’s gonna need a minute to think about it.

Kuroo was crying loud and hard, so hard that their face was beet red, occasionally stuttering to gasp for breath.
So far all attempts to calm them down had failed.
Kitty had done minimal help, quickly being tossed back at Kenma.
Their weighted blanket hadn’t helped at all, the little almost biting Akaashi on the arm when he tried to place it on their shoulders.
Yaku had had no luck either, swiftly getting kicked in the leg when he had shuffled closer.
Bokuto was huddled up in the corner, upset at his inability to calm down his regressor sibling.
Nothing had worked.
The pain in Kuroos eyes had Kenma reeling. Surly there was something they could do. He couldn’t just leave them in here.
“Kuroo, sweetheart, we can’t help you if we don’t know what’s wrong?” The little in front of him only started to cry harder, clearly also upset by the communication barrier.
“Kenma. We’re out of options. Can you think of anyone else that might be able to help?” Yaku was still rubbing his shin from his place on the floor.
“The only person I can think of his their little brother, but that runs the risk of also triggering him, and if he’s alone then we have another issue on our hands.”
A gaspy sob echoed around the room again, Kuroos fingers digging into their knees as they rocked back and forward.
With a heavy sigh, Kenma pulled out his phone, thumbing in Kagami’s number and hitting dial.
“What’s wrong?” Ah yep, he knew Kenma only ever called if something was wrong.
“Are you with someone you consider safe?”
“Is that Tetsu crying? Are they ok? What happened?”
“Kuroo slipped and started crying, they can’t tell us what’s wrong but we’ve tried everything.”
“Is their eye covered?”
The three caregivers looked up. Low and behold, Kuroos fringe was askew, exposing their scars and blind eye.
“You’re a life saver Kagami!”
Kenma tried to make himself smaller, crawling over to sit beside his little.
“Oh my baby. Is it you’re fringe?” Carefully his fingers pushed the long black hair over, covering their right eye in the process.
The crying quietened, slowing down to a sniffle almost instantly.
“They must be really little if they couldn’t fix it them self.”
Kuroo just whimpered quietly, making grabby hands at where Kitty had landed on the floor.
Akaashi picked her up, placing her in their grasp, the little curling around them before bringing their thumb up the their lips, still sniffling.
“You must be really tired after all that. Do you want to take a nap my baby?” Kenma cooed, bringing them down to rest against his lap.
Kuroo gave no visible response, probably not even registering the words spoken to them given how low their headspace could slip.
“BoBo?” Akaashi called to his little. “Do you wanna come over and help keep Kuroo safe? They are just a baby right now and they might need their big brother?”
The grey haired regressor perked up, toddling over to crouch in front of his sibling.
“Ku baby?”
“Ku is baby.” Kenma nodded, patting the floor beside him and Kuroo.
“Ohhh.” Bokuto hummed as he curled up on the other side of his sibling, covering their body as much as possible. “Oo safe Ku. BoBo keep safe.”
I'm thinking about nonbinary kuroo. he uses he/they pronouns. he was trembling when he told kenma. kenma too their hands and said "whatever makes you comfortable, kuro" and that's when kuroo became more confident. because if kenma is at his side, then kuroo can do anything. kuroo experiment with wearing makeup, dresses, and skirts. kenma will glare at anyone who talks shit or tries to make kuroo uncomfortable. just. nonbinary kuroo.

Kenma clicked his finger, trying to redirect Kuroos attention to the screen in front of them.
It was a looped video of a mother cat taking care of some kittens, one that had been known to calm Kuroo down in the past when they where feeling overwhelmed or anxious.
Their large hand came up to fiddle with Kenmas long hair, raking their fingers though it as if he was a cat too.
When Kenma began to worry that Kuroo might start to chew on his hair, he reached his hand back, letting his little take ahold of it and squeeze.
They squeezed back tight, so tight Kenma worried for his hands safety. Kuroos fingers where slightly wet, indicating that they still felt distressed enough to try and comfort themself.
It made Kenmas heart hurt.
A shaky finger poked the screen, indicating to the mother cat before turning to point at Kenma silently.
“Yea that’s right, you’re my little Kitten Kuroo. Just focus on the mama cat ok? I’ll keep you safe.”
They walked back to Kuroos apartment in complete silence.
It had been a long week, and even though Kuroo hadn’t said it out loud, Kenma was painfully aware of how tired they where and how hard they had tried to stay big.
And they still where.
Kuroos eyes where glued to the ground in front of them, hands fidgeting in their jacket pockets.
Their nose was scrunched up, lips pursed and it made Kenmas heart hurt because they where clearly overwhelmed.
“You good?” He wanted to ease into this.
Kuroo just huffed instead, squeezing their eyes shut as they stopped abruptly.
“Hey. It’s ok. I’m right here, we aren’t far from home.”
One of their hands came up, and for a second Kenma was worried they where going to strike themself, but they simply tugged at their fringe.
“I know, shhh.” Kenma took their other hand out of their pocket and held it in his own. “I will get you home safely if you don’t think you can stay big ok?”
Kuroo just nodded, hand still knotted in their fringe, covering their blind eye.
“Ok little kitten.” Kenma hummed, holding their hand as he began forward again.
They walked back in silence, Kuroo trailing, despite Kenmas slow place.
Once inside Kenma sat them down on the lounge, telling them to sit tight before heading to the bedroom to find their little gear.
Well he would except Kuroo refused to let go of their death grip on Kenmas hand.
“I know you’re tired, and scared to be alone right now. That’s ok. Do you think you can come with me to the bed room?” He spoke softly, watching his friend curl their knees up to their chest and bury their face in them. “Then I need you to let me go and I promise I’ll be right back.”
After a minute of coaxing, Kuroo finally dropped Kenmas hand.
The shorter made his way to the room, finding the others stuffed kitty, paci and a one piece pyjama suit.
As he quickly made his way back into the living area, he flicked off the bright over head lights and retrieved their bottle of apple juice from the fridge.
When he got back, Kuroo had pulled themself up into a ball, their entire face hidden behind their knees and shaking ever so slightly.
“Kuroo?” They didn’t move from their position. “Baby kitten some one wants to see you.”
Their good eye slowly peaked out, locking onto the black cat plushie before starting to uncurl themself.
“Here you go sweetheart. I’ll get you in your jammies and you can rest, no school tomorrow, you don’t have to see anyone. No more masking.” Kenma promised softly.
Their shirt was pulled over their head, discarded on the floor before their school pants and socks where lost as well.
Quickly shuffled into their pj suit, Kuroo was lay back against the lounge, head resting on Kenmas thighs as their caregiver carded a hand though their hair.
Bringing the bottle to their lips, they dully began to drink the cold apple juice, content slowly falling across their tired features.
Kitty was cuddled to their chest as they drank.
“Tetsu?” The voice of their younger brother called from the entrance way, the sound of a bag being dropped following. “Tetsuurooo!”
Kagami made his way into the lounge room, slapping a hand over his mouth when he saw his sibling and caregiver on the lounge.
“Oh sorry.” He whispered. “You’re small.”
Kenma nodded softly, given Kuroo was yet to notice their red headed brother.
“They’re ok right?” Taiga whispered again, walking a little closer.
“Yea, I think just tired and a little over stimulated, I’m gonna put them down for a nap.”
“Ok. Help yourself to the kitchen.” Taiga hummed, wiggling his fingers when Kuroo finally looked up at him.
Kuroo just sleepily blinked at their brother, not fully registering their surroundings, only Kitty and Kenmas hand in their hair.
“Thanks for getting them home safe.” Kagami hummed before turning towards his bedroom.
Kenma didn’t mind that the younger left, knowing if Kuroo showed any signs of distress, he would have to deal with over protective little Kagami.
He did not intend to get bitten again.
Watching his little drink he hummed to himself, leaning down to peck Kuroo on their forehead.
Kenma was quietly propped up against the wall at some unholy hour of the morning when he watched Kuroo sit up in complete silence.
“Kuroo?” The older teen looked around before bringing their hands up to cover their face and ducking their head down between their knees.
“Kuroo.” He tried again but got no response. “Hey are you little?”
Still nothing. Kenma quietly stood up, making his way over to the older teens bed and carefully placing his hand on their shoulder.
“Was it a nightmare?” They were shaking under his touch. It was weird that- oh.
The bed was wet…
“Oh no baby. That’s not good is it?” He used a hushed tone as he help pull the taller up, grabbing a (thankfully still dry) Kitty to place in his littles arms.
The black haired teen carefully looked around again before finger spelling out their brothers name.
“Kagami? He’s back at home sweetheart. He’s safe. So are you.” He folded up the wet blankets as he spoke softly. “Is that why you’re upset?”
They nodded softly.
“He’s ok. Do you want me to call him? Or do you want to get changed and go back to sleep?” Kenma turned to them, holding out two fists. He shook his right hand. “Call?”
Then he shook his left. “Sleep.”
Kuroo hesitantly poked Kenmas right hand and the smaller teen just gave a soft nod.
“Ok. Let’s get you changed first.”
In fresh pyjamas, the two sat outside the sleeping room, Kenma holding his phone on speaker. It rang twice before the groggy voice of the younger sibling broke though.
“What’s happened to Tetsurou?” Kagami spoke immediately, not even bothering with a greeting.
“They had a nightmare and woke up little. Got upset when they couldn’t see you.” Kenma hummed, fully aware they should not be awake at 4 in the morning.
“Tetsu? I’m here. I’m safe. I’m at home ok?” He’s voice dropped softer. “Are they hearing me Kenma?”
“Yea.” Kenma nodded softly as he watched Kuroo worriedly start chewing on their fingers.
“Nothings happened to me. It was just a nightmare. You remember when we were little and Da would make us toast pizza?” Kuroo nodded as their brother babbled.
“And then Pa would come down cause he thought someone had broken into the restaurant? And we’d get pasta sauce on Kitty and Calio? It’s just like that. Only this time you’ve got Kenma with you.” Kuroo sat still before finger spelling out the word sorry.
“They said sorry.” Kenma translated.
“Don’t say sorry Tetsu. Sorry is for eating my food, not for calling me when you’re upset.” The tall red head sighed. “I love you Tets. Enjoy camp.”
Kuroo nodded before waving at the phone, signing an ‘I love you’ for Kenma to translate.
“They said they loves you too. Thank you Kagami.”
“No problem. Night.” He hummed before hanging up. Kenma looked back up at his little who still looked a little upset but definitely less distraught.
“Do you miss your dads?” Kuroo nodded quickly, moving to hide their face behind Kitty. “It’s ok, holidays are coming up soon. You’ll be able to see them then.”
Kuroo pointed at Kenma before they began to finger spell out the word sorry again.
“Don’t be sorry, I wasn’t asleep anyway.” He tapped them on the back of their hand twice, their version of a hug when either of them was feeling overwhelmed. “I love you Kuroo.”
