"You okay, Lo?”

Janus’s voice was so gentle, his gloved hands holding Logan’s across the table. The logical side nodded, though comets heart raced. Xe had been meaning to come out for over a month, but star hadn’t managed to calm xemself down nearly enough every time com wanted to.

Xe had decided to just bite the bullet and tell him. There wasn’t any point in enduring the discomfort and dysphoria anymore, not when com knew that Janus would accept star in an instant.

“I’m not... I’m not-”

Xe had to take a moment to collect comself, despite knowing how understanding Janus would be. What if he didn't love star anymore? What if he was accepting but avoided Logan after that, eventually breaking up with xem? What if-

"Lo, Logan, it's okay. Anything you need to tell me, it's okay."

Star nodded again, wiping tears beginning to creep out of comets eyes. "I'm not... I'm not a man."

"Okay. That's perfectly fine, okay? I love you so much, sweetheart, and I'm so proud of you, for finding that and being confident enough to tell me."

Logan just nodded, breath still shaky.

"Do you know what you are, if not a man?"

"I'm- I'm nonbinary, but- I use- I use the term caelgender. It's- it's stupid, I-"

"No, it's not stupid, love. What does it mean? Do you want different pronouns, or a different name?"

Logan laced xir fingers in Janus's, taking a deep breath. "It's a gender that's... related to space, and objects in outer space and- all that. I'm okay with my name but I- I use star/stars, com/comet/comself, and xe/xir pronouns, but if you don't want to you can just use they/them-"

"No, Lo, I'll use them if they make you comfortable. I wanna support you, and I don't mind using those pronouns at all."

"Thank- thank you, Janus."

To start off June I drew a lil transparent Nonbinary Janus

Please… consider… the nb/transfem Sides doing a variety of things to feel more androgynous/feminine/etc, like putting on mascara/eyeliner, wearing small bits of jewelry, putting on clothes that look masculine enough but are from feminine-based brands, manipulating their voices to go just *this* much higher. It's all small things, such tiny things, and they never expect Patton to catch on— except that he does. And it's BAD.

Patton reacts by not reacting at all

In fact he actually seems to be MORE respectful, he uses the right pronouns, refers to them correctly

So one day one of them gets the courage to ask... what changed?

Patton smiles, and says. In the sweetest voice he can

"I figured playing into your delusions would be easier then denying them!"

patton learns about agender (and other nonbinary genders) when one of thomas’ friends comes out as such. immediately, logan starts reseaching and patton asks questions to understand as much as possible

the term gives them a weird feeling and at first patton feels guilty for constantly badgering logan for definitions, but then they realise its because hey, holy heck, im agender!

they tell the other sides almost immediately, and though they act like it’s no big deal patton is still lowkey concerned about what their reactions will be

it goes over pretty well, except virgil’s v quiet throughout it

virgil, meanwhile, is freaking out. maybe in a good way

they had known the definitions from their own research, so it wasnt like it was anything new to them, but they had kinda wondered if maybe they could be nonbinary-

that thought had been quickly shut down by the ensuing “no youre not, you dont feel weird about he/him so you cant be” and all sorts of other “what if im faking it” thoughts

so virgil had kept it to themselves. but when patton had come out-

is it possible that they could also be nonbinary?

logan suffered the brunt of this curiousity as virgil came into his room more often than not so logan could teach them the different genders under the nonbinary umbrella

then. then they learnt about genderfluid, and though it wasnt quite right, the thought that they could be multiple or a mix of genders...

patton hadnt hung out with virgil since they had come out. that needed to be solved right this second

they wait in the commons until virgil appears, and then asks to talk

immediate virgils mind is racing, wondering what they had done wrong but it is quickly eased when patton asks if they dont like them anymore

they use the word “son” somewhere in that sentence and virgil’s mouth tightens, which is weird because they had never minded before

patton, ever the perceptive one catches that. they ask if virgil is questioning their gender

after about five seconds, it becomes clear that they cant play it off as a no anymore, so virgil comes clean

“i want to be nonbinary,” they say, “but i don’t know if i am”

“if you want to be, then you are,” patton replies, and virgil blinks at the sure-sounding reply.

the rest of their conversation, they discuss pronouns and terms, and whether or not virgil wants to tell the others. its decided that patton will use they/them for virgil even in front of the others, but they wont say anything yet

if virgil likes it, then maybe, maybe they’ll come out. until then, they’re happy only confiding in patton
