what do you think about notre dame burning?
i mean. it sucks!!! but like im not attached to it so like….also its not DESTROYED. its probably gonna be fine.
If we are gonna talk about destructions that i really felt emotionally connected, i just think about the lost of the brazilian museum:
“It was the biggest natural history museum in Latin America. We have invaluable collections. Collections that are over 100 years old,” Cristiana Serejo, one of the museum’s vice-directors, told the G1 news site.
It wasn’t immediately clear how the fire began. The museum was part of Rio’s Federal University but had fallen into disrepair in recent years. Its impressive collections included items brought to Brazil by Dom Pedro I – the Portuguese prince regent who declared the then-colony’s independence from Portugal – Egyptian and Greco-Roman artefacts, “Luzia”, a 12,000 year-old skeleton and the oldest in the Americas, fossils, dinosaurs, and a meteorite found in 1784. Some of the archive was stored in another building but much of the collection is believed to have been destroyed.
Mércio Gomes, an anthropologist and former president of Brazil’s indigenous agency, Fundação Nacional do Índio (FUNAI), compared the loss to the burning of the library of Alexandria in 48BC. “We Brazilians only have 500 years of history. Our National Museum was 200 years old, but that’s what we had, and what is lost forever,” he wrote on Facebook.
Like, thats not only a big lost for Brazil and Latinoamerica. I’ve seen people saying that the notre dame thing had some kind of meaning? like, no. It was probably an accident. This destruction of this museum has a meaning, the fire was started probably because the goverment “didnt have” money for maintenance AND they couldnt save ANYTHING (only the meteorite, i think, because well, its a fucking meteorite) because the firefighters did not have enough water. Like, if you are talking about a destruction having a meaning, this was a representation of the goverment of Brazil not caring about their culture, history and education. This event was ACTUALLY a big scar for brazilians because it could have been easily avoided, and the fact that it happend and how it happend, its just a reflection of their realities. This can’t be “fixed”, i don’t know how much they are gonna actually care for it (unlike the notre dame) because they just let it go down without caring.
Not saying that what happend to notre dame can’t hurt, or is nothing, but some people are going tooo far with it. No, is not the end of the world. No, is not the end of humanity. I’ve seen people comparing the burning of notre dame to the 9/11 attack. Like, can you all chill a bit? fuck.
