I….don’t? When have I ever said or even implied that I thought witchcraft and herbs were a treatment for Covid?? I mean, some herbs can be a treatment for some of the milder symptoms, just like any cold-like virus. But viruses don’t get cured by magic, and as far as I’m aware there is no cure for Covid, you either get better or you die, and along the way we provide palliative care to make the “getting better” option more likely.

So, yea, not sure what you’re on about Anon, but kindly keep it out of my in-box.

I was wondering if you could tell me anything about esabbats? I have not been able to find much information on them.

Hi! Esbats are rituals or coven meetings performed between the major Sabbats such as between Yule and Imbolc. They are often placed during particular phases of the moon or on cross quarter days and such, but not always. Any big group ritual/meeting can be an esbat I think.

They’re mostly a Wiccan thing and I’m not a practicing Wiccan so I don’t celebrate them. But most books about Wicca will include a section on Esbats and Sabbats so I would suggest looking there for more information.

My best friend just went to college, every time I talk to her she seems to only be interested in talking about herself. It's unlike her. Do you have any spells / rituals I can do to help encourage better, two-sided communication / reciprocated love?

I would actually try just talking to her first. Tell her that you’re feeling like she isn’t supporting you like she always has before. Ask her if everything is alright with college, find out why she’s suddenly so self-obsessed. Communication has to start somewhere, even if you do a spell. 

I don’t really use pre-made spells much, I tend to do stuff on the fly. But chocolate, cinnamon, and nutmeg are all good for relationships. Mint is a good herb for communication.

I love burning incense for cleansing but I find it gives me such a headache. :-( Do you know of any alternatives? Thanks!

Hi Nonny! I would suggest burning dried herbs instead of incense. I would also be very careful, and figure out if you’re having an allergic reaction. If it gives you a headache, STOP burning anything. There are other ways to cleanse, from water to crystals, to simple visualization. You don’t have to burn things at all for cleansing, though I certainly understand the appeal. But if it’s making you sick, it’s not worth it. Try the dried herb bundles, like sage (not white sage, plain culinary sage please) or rosemary or basil. But if you continue to react to them, give something else a try!

Why is that book a bad witchcraft book?

Oh so so many reasons. A few: She conflates Wiccan with all paganism and witchcraft. She whitewashes Wicca, and presents witchcraft as a female-centered thing. She presents magic as the cure-all for everything, with no discussion of mundane possibilities. The book itself is mostly just cheesy spells with no real coherence or meaning behind the way they are created. The book is condescending in tone in the extreme, and full of factual errors to boot. 

I’m sure others could chime in with more specifics, but that’s what I remember of it. It’s been about 15 years since I last cracked that sucker.

Hello! :) I am new at witchcraft and I've been searching around for sigils and stuff. Though, I can't really understand how to creat one so I was wondering if you had any good advice or tips

Sigil so are great and super easy! The basic idea is that you are writing your intent into a symbol and charging it in some way. Most people literally write a sentence, then cross out vowels and repeated letters and use the remaking letters to make a sigil.

Personally I use runes and significant shapes to make my sigils. A sigil is really just any symbol that has a specific meaning. Pentacles for instance are a type of very common sigil.

Anyway, don’t be afraid to play around with the shape and arrangement of your sigil until it looks right, or until it works, or just until you’re ready to stop!

Do you have any spells that go along with chai teas?

So, chai is a spiced black tea made with milk. The spices vary sometimes, but they’re most often cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and ginger.

Milk is good for health, wealth, happiness and fertility spells. All the herbs are good love and protection spices, as well as health & money.

For my part I usually charge my chai to strengthen the love in my relationships and bring happiness through the day.
