You had strong opinions
Of grownups who play with LEGO,
Which you shared often,
But I’d built a fortress of colored bricks
And couldn’t hear you...
Today was a bad day. Not for a specific reason, but an avalanche of small ones. Some things I’ve been working on seemed farther away than ever. Some seemed impossible, but as despair loomed, the sun went down. A lot of people use darkness as a symbol of despair or resignation, but for me darkness is calm,
Warm,
Quiet,
Safe.
Because when it’s dark, and quiet, I can think. I can feel without fear of judgement or idle curiousity. In the darkness, I have time to process things, to analyze and predict and plan. In the darkness, things are clearer,
Patterns are more obvious,
More understandable,
And by the time I understand it, the brilliant sun rises and it’s a new day, a fresh slate, another chance to make things happen- because I will make them happen, even if it takes a mountain of nights and sunrises to come. No bad day is a match for the night.
Not for me,
Not for long.
No bad day is a match for my night.
The air is warm,
The skies are clear,
It’s raining somewhere else.
The baked earth burns
But well they know
It’s raining somewhere else.
10 years of drought
Only to find
It’s raining somewhere else.
Their eyes look up,
Searching for light
It’s raining somewhere else.
They look for hope,
But there is none-
It’s raining somewhere else.
What a Difference a Day Made
I went out with you on a whim
You seemed to enjoy the laughs we shared
The smiles, the connection
And I found comfort in your gaze
The moments we shared that night
Will change my life forever
Though it was a fleeting moment
The time we shared was magic
You told me you never see the stars
But I never realized I didn’t either
Until I looked into your eyes
And saw the world, lit up and full
Your touch was electric
Your words were the calm
In the storm I seemed to have held
In my mind for weeks
You taught me I’m beautiful
And I will always remember that day
The day that made such a difference
The night that I finally saw the stars
I loved today
You pulled my hand around, taking me to places that are unfamiliar in a world that I have grown up in It is weird how comfortable I am with you so quickly We went somewhere you wanted to go Super best friend love There are so many things running through my head I don't know what to write The experiences we had The feelings that chain us together
Cloud Cover
There are always clouds.
And the sky is so grey.
This softness
Is quite bleak.
Complete black with tiny lights
Seems thoughtful, and beautiful
But these clouds....
They smother the night.
Sky seems depressed.
