Best Salesman | Office!AU
“Yes, you heard me right, sir -- your bargain will be INCREDIBLE, you’ll receive a stunning 20 % discount -- and all you have to do -- and now comes the really impressive part -- is to sign up for another year to our company as your trustworthy supplier. It doesn’t matter if you want a year long delivery of paper, or perhaps you rather want printer ink: anything you wish for, sir, your wish is our command, of course.”
Leaning back in his office chair, the turquoise-haired boy looked over to his blondhead table mate. Right across him; it was sometimes so annoying sitting in his vicinity ---- each month, it was a crucial battle between them to be the best salesman of the month. Throwing around discounts, but still going by the rules, being the perfect charismatic kiss-ass on the phone, while still not losing their dignity; it was war out here in the sales department of their company.
To his shock, last month’s best salesman was that rookie, Sugimoto Terufumi; he had no bark, no bite, nothing, he wasn’t even sure how he would be a splendid salesman. He couldn’t lie, he couldn’t fake, he could not go very close to going against the rules, but not quite just yet. If it weren’t for the rules, this department would be similar to the last circle of hell. Nothing compared to crunching numbers like the accountants did.
“Not to mention our exquisite service, of course ---- I, as your personal consultant in this company, will be available to you any way or form you please: give me a call, send me an e-mail, fax me supplies that need restock, I even accept LINE messages ---- yes, we are really up-to-speed, it is -- after all -- the 21st century, and not the Stone Age anymore, isn’t it so? All you have to do, is tell me to agree on another year working together with us. We would be pleased to have you again, sir.”
All the while, he was side-eyeing Mizuta, trying to eavesdrop on his call with his client ---- sometimes, he really just wanted to wait for the perfect timing, the perfect moment to have him do something incredibly stupid and make him look bad in front of their deparment’s boss. Nobuyuki really was not the smartest, but he was popular with his funny ways and whatnot. Curling a strand of hair on his fingers, he tried to multitask by listening to his own client and to his co-worker.
