The day was bright—the sun beat down on your hair with such force that it made your body shudder. ‘So much for wearing a cute dress,’ you thought.
Despite this blazing heat, the town was bustling with an unusual chaos. Shopkeepers were frantically sliding everything off their wooden tables and into boxes for storage. Tamed horses cried out in distress as their stablehands shushed them soothingly, although their calm composure was quickly dissolving.
“What the hell is going on—” Before you could ask the timid florist next to you, the entire road in front of you became abandoned. Windows shut. Doors locked. Livestock stowed away safely. But here you were, your poor arms sore and stacked with shopping bags.
The road was silent. No laughter from children playing nearby. Not even the horses could be heard mewling. It clicked to you then, that something felt wrong, and rifles.
The soft clatter of horsesteps sounded behind you. You didn’t dare to turn around. Whoever it was could shoot you dead right then and there and you’d be fine with it. The light jingling of spur straps got closer and closer to you. ‘God, why did I even come here?’ Can’t a city girl just shop in peace?
“Are ya’ crying?” Your ears perked up like a meercat. A smooth, sultry voice spoke coolly in your ear. A gloved hand trails down to your wrist, where several purple lines were beginning to form due to your… shopping addiction.
“Hey, don’t ignore me,” the man smirked. A picture of perfect beauty—cosmic snow white hair and piercing azure eyes that clashed beautifully with the earthy murks of color in the surrounding saloons.
You didn’t think that you were staring for that long, but the beautiful man surely noticed. A long finger tilted your chin up to him. “Damn, you are pretty.”
A red blush rose to your cheeks as you scoffed, tugging your wrist away from him. “Who the hell do you think you are?” you spat.
The man’s eyes widened in profound surprise, his lips forming a questioning pout. His eyes trailed down to your dress—ruffled, white, and perfectly hugging your body how it was meant to. Then his eyes followed closely along your neck and décolletage—fine silver jewelry with tiny diamonds studded along the chain.
Something changed in his face when he caught a glimpse of the lacy bra strap peeking out from the top of your dress sleeve. His surprised pout dissolved into a knowing smirk. “You’re not from here, are ya’?”
A cold panic rushed through your spine, your cheeks beginning to heat up. “Why does it matter to you?” you stammered.
“Awe,” he teased. “Cute. It matters to me because you were the only person who didn’t run away when they heard me coming.” Fuck.
Satoru Gojo. The most wanted man in this area. The infamous rebel cowboy who saunters into town whenever he wants just to ravage some measly amount of gold. They weren’t scared of him because he was a thief—it’s because he was dangerous.
The most wanted man. And he was standing so close to you—close enough to smell the peachy rhubarb perfume you spritzed on that morning. “You’re not scared, are you?” he teased, his tone low and sharp.
“N-No,” you mumbled, head facing the ground in a cold panic. Satoru’s lips curled into a smirk again, his hands reaching to just pluck! the shopping bags right out of your hands, and sling them over the white stallion that trotted behind him. Did he really just flirt with me to steal my stuff?!
You turned around to cuss him out, less ladylike than expected, except he wasn’t leaving. He was waiting. “C’mon, get on,” Satoru gestured to his saddle. “I think I know the inn you’re staying at.”
You didn’t know if you should trust him. Your heart beat quickly—so quickly that you thought the heartbeats were visible to him. He nodded to you expectantly, white gloved hand outstretched to guide your steps.
You took his hand bitterly as silent curses left your lips. ‘I might actually die here today,’ you thought.
The white horse eyed you carefully as an overjoyed Satoru lifted you up by the hips onto the saddle. “Hold on tight, okay? I don’t wanna be responsible for some city girl‘s death today,” the cowboy grinned.
You swalled your insult back into your throat upon seeing his flashy, white canines smile at you. He most definitely caught sight of it, and his smirk grew even bigger.
His hand rested mere inches from your waist as he patted the stallion twice to start walking. “So,” he started. “Why’d you come into town today?”
“I could ask you the same thing,” you retorted, rolling your eyes.
He seemed taken aback by your snappy response. “Y’know… thieving around and such…”
“I seemed like a nice target, huh?” you laughed sheepishly.
Satoru’s face twisted into one of disgust. “Oh, please. What do I need with lacy bras and panties?”
“That’s no way to speak to a lady,” you mumbled, face flushed into a wine red. “Jerk.”
Satoru ignored your temper tantrum and began to whistle an old country tune as he walked next to you, hand on your thigh. The horse trotted to a steady beat, your skirt swaying with every horseshoed step.
The air was fairly humid now, and the sun was as strong as ever. You started to fan yourself quickly, silver bangles clinking as you did.
The cowboy cocked an eyebrow. “Are you hot?”
“What do you think, genius?”
He chuckled loudly, earning a few stares from the townspeople around. “Let’s go for drinks. My treat.”
The bar Satoru chose was none other than the one your old family friend Toji Fushiguro owned.
It was loud. It smelled like beer and the men laughed like hungry lions. And besides the poor waitress, you were the only woman in there.
Satoru flung the door open like he owned the place, and glanced around at each table with careful consideration. “Garçon! Your best table, please!”
The entire bar went silent. You couldn’t tell if it was because the rebel cowboy whom they called “Six Eyes” was there, or because he managed to lure a naive, spoiled city girl into coming with him.
Satoru rolled his eyes. “I said please, so where the hell is our table—”
“Shut it, you piece of shit.”
“My, my. Look who it is. The only member of the Zenin clan with no inheritance,” Satoru hummed. “Had to open up a bar so you could afford all the women you date, huh?”
Toji stared him down like a hawk. Focused, precise, and deadly. “I said, shut your fuckin’ mouth.” Then, his eyes fell on you.
Toji’s eyes glinted with anger. Satoru’s crazy grin widened as he moved in front of you. “Oh-ho-ho! It’s her! You’re not jealous, are you?”
That earned Satoru a sudden lunge from Toji, but before it got bloody, a silver revolver was cocked right between Toji’s eyebrows. You grabbed Satoru’s gloved hand out of fear, the warmth of his hands radiating through the glove.
“One move and I’ll shoot this place up,” Satoru laughed. His grip around your hand tightened. “Don’t ya’ remember what happened last time?”
Toji didn’t even look at Satoru, no, his dark eyes were pinpointed on you. He spoke to you for the first time right then. “What are you doing with him? Why didn’t you wait for me to pick you up?”
Satoru’s hand loosened around yours. What kind of connection did you have with this guy?
“You know this guy?” Satoru muttered, quiet enough for only you to hear, eyes still locked on the man before him.
“Y-Yeah, he’s a family friend…” you mumbled. “I actually came here to visit—”
The revolver suddenly clattered to the wooden floor. Satoru let go of your hand entirely. “I see.”
You didn’t know why his hurt voice made your heart throb so hard. A gloved hand reached around your waist then, fingers squeezing the soft flesh there. You yelped and shot a glare at Satoru, who flashed you a cocky smirk. “I still want your best table. Garçon.”
Toji’s jaw locked in place. “One drink and you leave her alone,” he threatened with underlying anger. “And don’t try to put anything in her drink either. I’m watching you, got it?”
Satoru guided you to the back of the bar to the sit-in seats right in front Toji’s counter.
“Can’t believe he made us sit in front of him. Look at him, he looks so angry. He looks like he about to shit himself,” Satoru whispered in your ear.
You laughed loudly, hitting the wooden counter in front of you. “Don’t let him hear you say that.”
Satoru nodded to the overworked waitress and waved her over. “What do you wanna drink, sugar?” Satoru grinned, leaning his head into his arms.
He frowned at your answer. “C’mon. You don’t have to be ladylike in front of me, y’know.”
“Okay… I’ll do one soda, please.”
“Make that two,” Satoru said. “Damn, you’re not even allowed to drink soda?”
You shrugged. “The closest thing I get to soda is apple juice.”
Satoru leaned back into his seat, legs manspreading further. “I wanna know more. But before that, tell me something,” he smirked. Your ears perked up.
