Hey did you see Jack’s post? What do you think of it?

I did! I rarely get involved in fandom discourse, but I did speak my piece on the matter earlier. The long and short of it is that Sean fucked up by hiring Nopeify as his new editor, an individual who he didn’t make even the most cursory background check on (as any good employer can and should do). Even though signing on a new editor was originally intended to ease the burden on Robin.

Sean has now apologized (in that post you mentioned) and fired Nopeify from his employ, after members of his fanbase brought to light Nopeify’s questionable content over the course of the last month. And I can recognize and acknowledge when people are trying to do better and be better than they originally were, and when their correction genuinely takes people’s feelings into account.

Sean lost a lot of faith with many of his LGBTQ+ fans for hiring that new editor, as Nopeify has a history of using slurs and making incendiary statements. But, instead of letting the matter rest and leaving his fans in the dark, Sean realized his decision to hire someone like that hurt people and is doing what he can to fix it. But, as a public individual with millions following him, Sean also needs to keep in mind that his decisions can and do impact the world – and people in the community – around him.

Hopefully, this is a positive sign that he’ll learn from this and think more carefully about his choices in the future, rather than making snap decisions… however well-intentioned they might be.

TL, DR: I am still a fan of Sean’s work and follower of his channel, but I’m not going to make excuses for him either. At the same time, I’m also hoping he does better in the future. Because we all know he can do better.
