do you only use female star wars character names? i'm curious what all you've used thus far to have been running low

Pretty much every electronic I’ve owned in the history of owning electronics has been named after a female Star Wars character.  (The first desktop my dad helped me build was named Leia and I went from there.)  I haven’t run out of names entirely at all (although I’ve always tried to primarily stick to visual canon and not EU), but just... it’s gotta be the RIGHT name too.  But some I’ve used:

Leia (obviously)

Shmi

Padme & Amidala (separate systems)

Zam

Shaak Ti

Aayla

Ahsoka

Bariss

Jaina

Mara Jade

Ailyn

And now... Maz Kanata

I know there’s more but I’m forgetting some.  It’s a good fun naming system.  My dad used to use Star Wars characters too (mostly male but sometimes female--we have a huge backup server named Jabba) but he switched to Dune a while back, I think.

Oh no ��Depending on how antsy you’re feeling I have a spare laptop with photoshop + lightroom on it that you could borrow to try and get stuff done before the Thursday fix if you’re up for a drive… do you think your client will be understanding about the delay?

Probably don’t have time to do the drive before the stuff arrives to fix, but I appreciate the offer.  <3  I just emailed both clients to let them know their respective delays.  I think they should be okay.  They were both good clients (one a handful but in an over the top effusive sort of way, not in a dramatic difficult way) so I think they’ll probably be fine.  I just don’t like not being able to do anything to make progress.  Just gotta sit.

Ummm yes Margaret Atwood is the best!

Probably the best is just pick up whatever Margaret Atwood book or short story or poetry is nearby and run with it.  I at this point have gone through a lot of my library selection and honestly there’s still stuff I haven’t read.  And the thing about her is that some of her works may really really click and resonate with you and some might not, but guaranteed if you seek out a lot of her work, SOMETHING is going to hit you real hard in that powerful part of you that only stories can fill.  So basically yeah, read everything, whatever sounds good.  She’s an incredibly versatile author with such a wide range of genres and voices and stories. (It’s what makes her one of my favorite authors, but it also means there’s something by her for everyone.)

Oh, this is super neat! Also, I’ve never read anything by Margaret Atwood… I had stuff by her on my to read list forever, but I lost my to read list and forgot and now just ??? I know she’s one of your favorites, are there any other books I should add on my list?

Okay my #1 Margaret Atwood recommendation is the MaddAddam series (Oryx & Crake, The Year of the Flood, and MaddAddam).  I really like Alias Grace as well.  I didn’t click as well with Handmaid’s Tale but maybe I should try it again now as that was years ago.  Oh also Robber Bride (and the follow-up short story I Dream of Zenia with the Bright Red Teeth).

I feel like this is something I should know, but.. what is a spoat? I googled it and the results were disturbing and… hopefully unrelated to this picture

Oh jesus okay yeah don’t google that.

The term “spoat” (as I use it) comes from Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake, but they exist in real life.  They are transgenic goats that product spider silk in their milk.  (Spider + goat = spoat)  The silk is incredibly strong and durable and can be turned into some super cool polymers.  Of the original 4 created, only one is viewable by the public (they’re all dead but the other 3 are in labs or dissected somewhere) and that’s the one I saw.

They’re super cool (maybe instead of googling spoat, you can google like... BioSteel if you want... that’s the original name for the fibers they produce) and a fascinating use of science and also you should 500% read Oryx and Crake.
