You know, it's 2017... I really should have learned not to read youtube comments by now... I'd love to make a whole long vent on it but i doubt i'll be able to anyway the base line is @rhettandlink handled the subject regarding Stim toys very well but now people in the comments are like "but noo this is my thing not anyone else's" and I'm just kind of mildly irritated because it's an important subject Basically every human stims/fidgets/what have you it's just Autistic peeps and NeuroAtypical peeps stim /more/ and differently. But everyone with anxiety in the comments is like "nuu don't normalise this, it's just for me!!!" and I just don't like that rhetoric because there are so many positives to stimming/fidgeting being normalised: 1. It would stop having a negative connotation in society, and harmful things like "quiet hands" would stop 2. It would raise the need for more and more interesting stim toys, effectively reducing the cost of stim toys all around (we're already seeing that right now) 3. People who are undiagnosed, who fell through the system and just feel lost, they'll have an outlet to stim and may not go through Autistic burnout or depression or anxiety like a lot of us later diagnosis Autistics did. I mean yes; There are a lot of subjects where I want NeuroTypicals and Allistics to StayInTheirOwnDamnLane™ but stimming isn't one of them. Because like it or not, stimming includes them. Idk, it just really frustrated me. Probably because I had initially been worried Rhett and Link would get the subject wrong But they didn't. They mentioned how beneficial stimming is, how it shouldn't be expensive, and how adults who stim are seen as unprofessional and kids who stim are seen as disruptive and that's great! It's a great thing to have something mainstream talk about this! But now with all the hateful "This is my thing and my thing only" comments and even one incredibly ableist and confusing "This is just for kids; adults don't need to use these devices, and don't call them toys" comment I'm afraid the good that Rhett and Link tried to do may be all for naught... Idk... I personally would love to be able to stim in public without people being like "are u okay? what's wrong? stop doing that!" and that's only going to happen if we get stimming/fidgeting/etc to be a mainstream thing. Anyway... This is just half the vent I'd love to do on this Though I was able to write more on the subject that I'd thought so yay!
