Mr. Robot
Shawshank Redemption is such a moving film. The writing, filming, and acting give the movie so many layers with such amazing depth. It causes me to reflect on who I am, and how my view of the world might need to be changed. The movie can be very brutal, which could cause some to not want to see it because they do not want to be exposed to these types of things. However, the authenticity of the movie, including the brutality, is what draws me to it. I want to be able to relate to people who actually experience the things depicted in this film.
This video captures the true essence of the movie in its entirety. Its one man's pursuit of normancy and freedom in spite of the dreadful and depressing setting he lives in. In this scene, this takes the form of listening to beautiful opera music, and sharing it with all of the inmates. Red (Morgan Freeman) captures the moment so well by saying, "Its like some beautiful bird got trapped in our horrible cage and made those walls disappear, and for the briefest of moments, every last man at Shawshank felt free."
I hope that I never take for granted the freedom that has been granted to me. I hope that I never grow restless with the liberties I have received. But if, for some reason, I find myself in a horrible situation like these men, then I hope that I can face it with the same resiliency that they did.
