In this still life Oil painting lesson I show you how to paint a Red Onion step by step.
I was painting this over a feew weeks and in that time it started to grow, so in the middle of the video I had to re-sketch The onion, It was not the intention but in hinsight I think it gave the painting something extra.
In the video I also explain how to avoid lines and how to create shadows that feel more natural. I also explain how to use the oil paint, as it was clay and to think of the painting not as a two-dimensional surface but as a relief and oil painting process as building three-dimensional relief.
