The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung) invited all students in Germany to support the Save Soil movement by submitting their creative artwork on soil. Landscapes, still-lifes, impressionism, surrealism, pottery, photography, weaving, haikus, or iambic pentameters – anything goes! This is also a good opportunity for students as their art will be displayed as part of “Save Soil – a global exhibition of art, poetry, and more!”

In this still life Oil painting lesson I show you how to paint a Red Onion step by step.

I was painting this over a feew weeks and in that time it started to grow, so in the middle of the video I had to re-sketch The onion, It was not the intention but in hinsight I think it gave the painting something extra.

In the video I also explain how to avoid lines and how to create shadows that feel more natural. I also explain how to use the oil paint, as it was clay and to think of the painting not as a two-dimensional surface but as a relief and oil painting process as building three-dimensional relief.
