Founded in 1969, the Beef Barn has become a local institution in North Smithfield. It has been owned by the Branchaud family since opening, and the building itself is part of the family’s history. The silo came from a family farm, hauled to the restaurant location on a truck to become the restaurant’s trademark.

The interior of the restaurant is filled with local antiques, kitsch, and good food. Though it has become a draw for tourists over the years, the restaurant is a favorite with locals and a true Rhode Island institution.

So, a town in Rhode Island that I live near just voted to boycott Nike because of the Kaepernick ad.

This is completely ridiculous and I have no idea how they're going to enforce that boycott, but I'm about to walk through the town in all Nike attire so

The village of Slatersville, located in North Smithfield, was founded by brothers Samuel and John Slater in 1803. It was the country’s first planned industrial mill village, owned and run by the Slater family until the turn of the 20th century for the employees of Slater Mill.

Many of the original structures are preserved in the downtown Historic District, including John Slater’s house, pictured above.
