The village of Slatersville, located in North Smithfield, was founded by brothers Samuel and John Slater in 1803. It was the country’s first planned industrial mill village, owned and run by the Slater family until the turn of the 20th century for the employees of Slater Mill.
Many of the original structures are preserved in the downtown Historic District, including John Slater’s house, pictured above.
One of the reasons I went to this place cause I wanted to find the supposed cliff jumping place in RI, Burriville. Turns out it was in the boarder of Buriville and Slatersville, its the Slaters Reservoir. But they stopped cliff jumping there because someone actually died. Though, this water is really clean and good for it :)
