i played fiasco with Some Friends today and i was the unfortunate daughter of two crime lords, who were married but didn’t know they were, in fact, each other’s rivals of the crime world. both of them had godawful russian accents and were therefore unable to tell that the other had an accent too. we had fun

I personally think the lawful/chaotic/neutral is based on your own codes. like either codes you've adopted from your society/group/religious order or just own moral codes. If you're really intent on following them, lawful. they may crash with the society you're in, still lawful. Chaotic is willing to sacrifice following their codes for the end result. I'm not quite sure about neutral but maybe that's a more "deciding in the moment" instead of having strict rules.

yeah, that’s what i’ve gathered. this only further suggests the alignment depends on setting and circumstance??like the one dnd character i made is chaotic neutral because they were a bit of an outcast in an already faraway forest tribe, so they have like... a very vague grasp on society stuff and mostly just wants to hang out in the forest
