What is the story of "No Single Story" ?
Think about the stories you hear on daily basis: the news on the TV, a story a friend tells you over coffee, an event you read about online, a video you watch on Facebook, a tweet you read on twitter. Are these stories usually completely one-sided? Are they usually told from a single viewpoint?
The answer is: YES. Most of the stories we hear, are told from a single viewpoint.
Instead of having a good balance of stories, we get only 1 story. And once the story is out there, it gets shared on facebook, retweeted on tweeter, emailed to a fried, re-ran on tv, etc. So this story becomes the ONLY story. We place a single label on an event. We form a single viewpoint.
What if I told you that we don’t need to drink 8 glasses of water a day? What if I wrote that Napoleon Bonaparte was not actually a short leader? And that historically Buddha was not actually overweight? Oh also, what if you heard that Darwin never said humans evolved from Chimpanzees?
Yup, all of the above are true! These are simple examples of stories where the whole story got forgotten, and one variation of it became the only story.
How is this blog different?
We seek to debate all sides of a story
We seek to show that there is never a definitive story
We avoid single labels: we find a balance of stories
We believe, that it is only in stories written from the viewpoint of omniscient author that you get an incredible balance of stories. We don’t have omniscient journalists, historians, politicians, scientists in real life. But we have the power and resources to search for all the angles of a story.
This is my story about "No Single Story". So far, it is a single story. Let's uncover the rest of the stories together!
