Climate change has been something extremely important to me since I first learned about it in the 6th grade when we had to do speeches in class. That was over 10 years ago. But now, over 10 years later, we are quickly running out of time. Things are changing, but not fast enough.
My uni studies have been focused on ecology and organisms, and have always been a white-centric dialogue. It’s not until the last three weeks that I’ve learned about POCs doing hard activist work as well. I only really knew of one other person who cared about the planet the way I did that was a POC, so it was really exciting to me to learn about more people who care the way I do, some even more than I do.
Please check ‘em out on IG: Leah Thomas, Tori Tsui, Diandra Marizet, Kristy of Brown Girl Green, Dr. Ayana Johnson (marine biologist), and Intersectional Environmentalist (a new collective of POCs advocating for climate change and social justice). There are so many more out there.
