finished cleverman! honestly it's a banger of a show and I wish more people knew about it
it's an australian show that posits that the myth of the Yowie (I believe? anyway, hairy human-resembling people that are superhumanly strong and live hundreds of years) is real and are a horrifically oppressed class of people in Australia, confined to living in The Zone. when Jimmy, an Australian Aboriginal spiritual leader called the Cleverman, dies, he leaves the role to his half-nephew Koen instead of his nephew Waruu, as everyone had expected
it has one of the more interesting takes I've seen on "fantasy racism", because it doesn't ignore actual racism alongside it. Waruu in particular speaks a lot about his experience as a black man, and Koen's personal journey is all tied up in being mixed-race (idk whether he would use that term), and the conflict between them often comes back to Koen's mother being white
it's a little bleak and occasionally emotionally exhausting, but balances that out with meaty character stuff and genuine fun. and superpowered fights! and so much prosthetic hair! this show has ladies with beards, it's great
