Collins is gone.
Namaygoosisagagun First Nation/Collins has burned to the ground. The entire community is nothing but ashes after being quickly consumed by wildfires. They did not have any support from emergency services, and no one offered aid. The community saved themselves by escaping into boats because no one came.
Mishkeegogamang and Cat Lake have lost power. Families are ending up in shelters with nothing. Armstrong, Lac La Croix, Whitesand, Gull Bay, Lac des Mille Lacs are currently in the fires path and all members are being evacuated.
All this loss, all this devastation, and it was entirely preventable.
After steadily underfunding wildland firefighting and purposefully excluding Indigenous wildland firefighters and Indigenous wildfire organizations from wildfire operations, firefighter training, decisionmaking, and resource exchanges, in 2025, Doug Ford slashed the forest firefighting budget.
It's hard to ignore his decision to cut funding and leave us out of adequate fire training (even though we've lived with forest fires for thousands of years—far longer than settlers have been in Canada—and made sure fires like the ones we're all seeing today were prevented through kinisitotēn) when, despite making up less than 5% of the population, we account for 42% percent of all wildfire evacuations in Canada.
And when we are successfully evacuated, we face discrimination and racism—like Kashechewan—because it's always been easier to blame us than it is to blame the true culprit: denialism, corportate greed, and colonization.
The people of Collins and every other impacted community deserve better.
Right now, the AFN is currently accepting donations to help Collins First Nation. If you're able to, please consider donating.
ONWA (Ontario Native Women's Association) is another great place to donate to. They have outreach vans going to motels and inns and offering food, water, resources, and cultural support to those impacted by the wildfires.
Other places to consider donating to are Mikinakoos Emergency Fund, Red Cross, True North Aid, Indigenous Climate Action. You can also send donations directly to Whitesand First Nation via e-transfer ([email protected]) and they request that you add your full name in the e-transfer comment section to receive a tax receipt.
*Before sending money, verify that the appeal appears on an official First Nation, Tribal Council or registered charity channel.
If you can't offer financial support, please consider donating items of need. Moontime Connections is currently accepting drop-off donations. If you live in the Thunder Bay area, Namaygoosisagagun Health Office is also taking in donations! They can also bemailed to Superior Inn Hotel & Conference Centre at 555 West Arthur Street, Thunder Bay, ON, P7E 5P8.
items needed are: food, diapers, medical masks, men’s and women’s joggers (all sizes), children’s clothing (newborn to size 14), children’s shoes, summer clothing, men’s clothing, toiletries (lotion, Vaseline, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, etc.), strollers, adult depends-all sizes, dog & cat food

oh god who am I
I kind of... ship... ed/oswald?? this rewatch??
Because I’m curious: reblog this and put in the tags 1) what kind of female characters you tend to find yourself drawn to and 2) if you have any thoughts about the portrayals of these sorts of characters in fiction*
*could mean anything: thoughts on what you think about the way they’re typically portrayed, thoughts on the relative abundance or scarcity of those types of characters in fiction, any character that you felt was handled particularly well or poorly. I just wanna know!
I want you to enjoy the once in a lifetime experience of reading this post for the first time. So im going to be quiet now. You just enjoy the moment
If I can be a hater for a second: I find the mystique around the phrase "wine-dark sea" to be rather tedious. Like. It's clearly referring to shade rather than hue. Idk if it's different in ancient Greek but I don't think Homer ever said "the wine-colored sea." It literally has the word "dark" in the thing, you guys.
If I said that something black was "as black as the night," would you take that to mean it's a sort of dark blue spangled with stars and planets? You would not.
The issue is that “oinops” doesn’t literally mean “wine-dark”, it means “wine-faced” or “wine-eyed” and the one time it definitively refers to color it means “red”. Then, in later poetry, it means “drunk” or “violent” instead.
Not to be a bitch but sometimes people engage with fiction in the most boring way possible, and nowhere is this clearer than in videogames. Like what you mean you hate a character just because they were kind of abrasive when speaking to the player character? "They were mean to me" and it didn't occur to you to wonder why? Like, what might their attitude toward you reveal about the world? About the social dynamics within it? About their own perspectives and backgrounds and personalities? Does it even occur you to ask? Would you only have liked them if they bowed to your presence and talked about how great you are? Like I'm sorry but you're so boring. How boring fiction would be if it cathered to you
So this is happening right now apparently. JK rowling is posting upskirt photos of, misgendering publicly and generally degrading a trans woman because TERFs gonna TERF. This is after she started a women's support organization that is trans exclusionary, outraged that another org is being run by a trans woman. So like are we done enjoying Harry Potter or whatever the fuck? Are we done passively bankrolling this absolute fucking abuser?
do you see this shit my liege
a thing about me is i basically never notice a wig or other kind of hairpiece in tv/movies. it has to be party city territory for me to even twig it. people will complain about characters' wigs looking bad and i will nod along but there is like a 90% chance i did not notice for a second while watching. i consider this mostly a blessing.
I didn't even know they had a category for that
Hollywood really could have that category
man I didn't even want the preorder sticker for the last taz book but now amazon (I KNOW, OKAY? all the non-amazon order options were us-only) randomly cancelled my order, I'm here stewing in rage because no preorder sticker :\

Writers, which software do you use?
Google docs
Microsoft word
Ellipsus
Libre office - writer

I used to use Google docs, but the white mode only was really annoying me (tires my eyes), so I swapped to Ellipsus (which I genuinely love and recommend), but it was bothering me a bit that I need wifi in order to use it, so now I switched to LibreOffice Writer, which I do like.
It very much has a Microsoft Word feel, but is open source and you need no accounts to use it. It's local on your device, so no AI can scan it, and no wifi is needed.
I still wish it had the Google Docs cards, because, bitch, that thing is so good for easy organizing.
