I can’t recommend reading theory and forming your own analysis enough, it really helps you to navigate discourses and identify who is seriously engaging in analysis and who is straight bullshitting to get their way in an argument
#I know this is one of those posts that’s like very obvious#but truly the more I read the more I’ve been able to find people who really discuss shit in good faith#and that alone makes all the effort reading worth it#like it improves my social life a lot to be able to better identify who is challenging me w a new framework to consider#versus who is just throwing anything they can at the wall to see what sticks#there are a lot of people who have an opinion about how a social interaction should go and then construct an analytical argument backwards#from that point by trying to find anyone whose words can implicitly lend credibility to their argument#& it’s very different from#people who are actively learning and trying to understand systems and how to navigate socially based on that analysis#I am reevaluating the sort of ‘best practices’ of things all the time now#and sometimes I’m like these standards are actively harmful & im#not participating#and other times I’m like oh now I understand *why* this practice or method of explaining something is politically#politically* useful#it’s very helpful to have the information needed to act with intention and not be constantly afraid of criticism#to have clarity on my own understanding and principles#reading & study#🗝️
