Hi, I'm Manon. And I create Interactive Fiction for fun. Sometimes in French, sometimes in English, and in both when I can.
Currently a dozen playable games in various state and free templates and guides.
I post weekly dev logs about my project progress. I also write reviews of IF games (@manonamora-if-reviews).
I also made a whole resource list for Twine (guide, macro, templates).
Ask me stuff about stuff :P
If I'm not here, I'm not here.
Website: on neocities (ACTUALLY up-to-date)
itch.io: manonamora
Discord: I'm on a bunch of different IF-related servers, if you see a manonamora with this icon, it's probably me. 🤫
Sometimes I'm active IntFiction forum or the @neointeractives Discord.
My IF games are playable on itch.io, listed on the IFDB (for reviews), with some backed up in the IFArchive. I sometimes post code on GitHub.
Other Tumblrs: @crimsonroseandwhitelily (sideblog IF), @neointeractives, @neo-twiny-jam, @seedcomp-if
Since 2021, I've released a dozen of projects or WIPs, most of those being Interactive Fiction pieces. While the majority have been made with Twine (SugarCube), I've been testing other formats and programs.
I've also created templates and coding guides for SugarCube, as well as prompts. Both templates and prompts are free to use under the CC-BY license.
All projects and relevant links are listed under the cut. [This is not up-to-date -> see website for full list]

We are just a couple of weeks away from this year’s IFComp games being released. Are you looking forward to them as much as we are?? IT'S SO EXCITING!!
(Unless you’re an author who is furiously testing and revising and recompiling and testing and revising and recompiling and… Good luck, authors! You can do it!)
While we eagerly await the new games to come, we’d like to ask for your help with the Colossal Fund. If you already know about the fund and are able to contribute, please go to ifcomp.org and hit that blue “Donate with PayPal” button!
If you’d like more information first, keep on reading…
The Colossal Fund raises money for the cash prizes that are awarded to the top two-thirds of IFComp entries. We use 80% of the funds for that, and the remaining funds are used to provide support for the programs and projects of the Interactive Fiction Technology Foundation, including the Interactive Fiction Competition, the IF Archive, the IFDB, the forums at intfiction.org, and other projects.
This year, we are shooting for $8K.
We’re now accepting donations for 2025!
The donation button is live at IFComp.org. See your name listed on our donor page (or listed as “anonymous” if you prefer)!
Our fundraising deadline is October 15th - the last day of competition voting. 80% of the proceeds (~$6.4K if we hit our goal) will be distributed among the top two-thirds of IFComp finishers.
What does this mean for authors?
Because we’re dividing the money among the top two-thirds of games, the exact numbers depend on how many entries there are. If we have 75 entries, then we will divide the money among the top 50. If we hit our goal, that would mean that the winner of the competition will be offered a prize of $357, second place will be offered $343, third prize $329… and so on and so forth until 50th place, which will be offered $10. Our goal is to distribute prizes across a broad range of IF styles and ideas. Any game which does even moderately well is offered a decent prize. (If you wanna get nerdy, there's information about the formula with a link to a Python script here.)
How do I donate?
Please go to https://ifcomp.org and push the big blue Donate button.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes, to the extent allowed by law. (Consult a tax professional.)
Does the Colossal Fund replace the usual IFComp prize list?
Nope! These cash prizes will be in addition to the usual IFComp prize list. We do need more of those non-cash prizes as well! Please visit our prize page to see what objects and services others have donated, get ideas from donations given in previous years, and see how you can contribute.
How will the cash prizes be distributed?
Via PayPal or Venmo. (The IFComp entry form has a field for your Paypal address.) If you can’t accept PayPal or Venmo, we can mail a US check to a US address. If that doesn’t work for you, or if you wish to decline the cash prize, we will roll the money into next year’s prize fund, which means it will continue to support authors and IFTF programs.
As we all know, UK OSA recently came to play for UK residents. Which means itch.io had to comply to the new rules (read more about here).
Essentially, until itch finds an acceptable way of complying with the "Check people's ID" rules from the new regulations, they are geo-blocking any NSFW page. This includes (afaik):
Project pages
Profile pages displaying geo-blocked projects!!!*
*right now I don't know if it's just listing games widget-style, collections are affected, or if having basic links towards NSFW projects in your profile description counts too.
If you are a UK resident landing on a creator page with NSFW content, you probably will end up with a screenshot like this:
If you are a creator looking to see if your project(s) is affected by this, you can find whether a project is geo-blocked by:
Going to the Distribute tab of your project
Click Geo restrictions
You can also appeal the decision by contacting itch.io support.
This was also shared by itch in their update post:
Connect with local advocacy groups working on digital rights issues
Review and consider signing this petition opposing the OSA’s implementation: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/722903
Contact your local representatives to express your concerns
I started a thing! The webpage is still a work in progress, but it'll be in better shape soon.

In the spirit of What’s New In IF?, which I quite miss, I’m going to try out doing a weekly roundup of IF news cross-posted both here [on my neocities site] and at Intfiction.org. This will include things like:
Competition- and other event-related announcements (opening/closing dates, results released, etc.)
IF-specific and IF-friendly jams on Itch.io
IF-related publications (new Rosebush articles, Choicebeat issues, etc.)
While I keep up pretty well with the comps etc. that get announced at Intfiction.org, I certainly don’t see all the IF news in every corner of every community. So if you see something that you think is worth including, let me know and I’ll add it to the week’s post (and give you credit if you’d like).
____________
I'm not very active on Tumblr, so this is not the best place to contact me--but feel free to hit me up at one of the places listed here!
Halfway through summer already, and I'll be offline for a few more days - moving to permanent accommodations*, internet won't be set for a couple of days. I'll be spending these couple of days actually unpacking my boxes and see what survived, checking out the neighbourhood, etc... you know... getting settled properly.
*Insane thing, like 90+ people applied for that place, and the contract was given to one application at random. And we got through with a second shuffle, because the first one declined. I don't think I'll be this lucky ever again....
Let's get into this:
Recap of July
The Plan for August
Update on 2025's progress
TLDR: Aside from the translation, IF has been a bit on the back-burner, especially the past two weeks. It will continue for a bit more until settled.
What I've been up to in July?
Not... that much IF, actually. Except for one project that I can't talk about.
Still editing my personal website
I think I'm slowly finding my footing with this space (I've reorganised the pages again lol... the URLs looked like a mess, but I'm almost done). I've been writing a few blogs, kind of a throwback to the early 2010s Liveblog scene honestly. It's nice being able to put some thoughts down, even if nothing is really super serious (but also things I wouldn't want to share on Tumblr...).
I might have dipped into the pixel club void so much, I came back with some of my own: Timbropixelia (postal stamps - with @lapinlunaire-games !) and PixelBuster (movies/series). I've also been following tutorials on making pixel art from scratch (rather than based on something), but it's... bad.
Finally, tracking things has been surprisingly helpful recently. I find myself jumping at opportunities to try new things (so I can add it to the list later :P ), and be more involved when doing things. It's also been easier to place events looking at the list.
Translation Project
No more buffer for me this month, this was really a week-by-week work on those translations. I've even missed the actually Sundays... most Sundays because I didn't time myself well (or overestimated MelS free time to check my mess). So now I've added machina caerulea (incl. French), Bon Dieu ! Et une lessive aussi ? (incl. English), and Maenad Rite. Cassandra was supposed to be out last Sunday, but something came up for MelS and he couldn't check it until today. it will be out ASAP.
I'm... still struggling. Though he can understand what I've done (most of the time), and some sentences are technically correct, MelS still ends up finding something wrong in most of them. It's frustrating, but learning a language isn't a walk in the park either. And I'm not doing myself any favour by translating things with flowery language to begin with... But at the same time, I don't really have works with basic sentences...
On the plus side, learning new words AND remembering them in the next translations (turns out I use whispering, and liquid, and body parts quite often).
AND I'M OFFICIALLY 2/3rd THROUGH THIS PROJECT!!!
And... running out of tiny stuff to translate....
The Cloak of Darkness
It's been a while since the last port I've made, and I've used a couple of new engines since. There was the Decker Month happening, so I took a couple of days and made a port for Decker!
NGL, I think this is so far my favourite version of The Clock of Darkness.
Exquisite Cadaver
I have... nothing to report this month. I haven't been able to sit down and work on it in meaningful way. Like I think I managed to fix a bug to two, but not more... I'm hoping to get writing during August instead - but after I'm properly settled.
Neo-Interactives and other Events
@neointeractives currently has the Single Choice Jam ongoing, for two more weeks, and the Bring Out Your Ghost is coming just next!
AGAIN I forgot to post about the 2025 Showcase. Someone need to send me an ask in like a week to remind me.
The Summer of Translations (Tumblr) is still mainly me, and that's ok! Though there's been more people joining lately... so maybe we'll see more stuff~
Only a couple of Friday Fun-Day 5-star-Day this month (been a busy bee IRL. I'll try to get at least one posted for August.
And finally the @ifcomp is accepting game intents until midnight EST TODAY! If you miss it, you'll have to wait until next year~ (or participate in the SpringThing...)
Other stuff
I interviewed SV Linwood for @the-rosebush-mag! Yall should go read it!
I haven't been able to play/review in the past two weeks, but there are still a bunch of reviews over at @manonamora-if-reviews! For the Neo-Twiny Jam and the Review-A-Thon.
Aaaaand... that's it for this month.
~
The PLANtm for August
Summer is almost over, but there is still time to make things:
Summer of Translations: we finish this project with 5 more titles to translate. Or maybe 4 and I write a whole tiny one in Dutch first.
Website: finish making the website mobile compatible (and JavaScript free where possible)
Reviews: over on @manonamora-if-reviews, hopefully I can put out a couple.
Exquisite Cadaver: Write :P
Druk druk druk...
~
Updates on 2025's progress
No more tiny plans! We're back on the main one :
The Main To-Do list - a.k.a. what I'll 100% be doing
Complete Exquisite Cadaver -> by the end of the year
Fix Lysidice and the Minotaur -> need a week? and retesting
Keep the Website updated -> follow me on Neocities lol
Neo-Interactives/IFComp organisation -> picking up
Secret IF thing -> Demo needs to be ready for Sept.
The Secondary To-Do list - a.k.a. if I have time/energy/will
Complete the Website To-Do list (accessible, all customised, more non-IF stuff, also code stuff)
Today, we are re-indexing free adult NSFW content . We are still in ongoing discussions with payment processors and will be re-introducing p
TLDR:
Free (aka no payment) NSFW content is being re-indexed.
If your paid NSFW page is moved to a No payment option TODAY, it will also be re-indexed.
Itch will also introduce a new Content Warning system for NSFW pages (not detailed in this post)
Stripe is blocking card payments for adult content that is “content designed for sexual gratification” due to "restriction placed on them by their banking partners".
Itch is looking for payment processor alternative for NSFW content.
I wrote a version of this on a forum and then decided to edit and repost it here for easy sharing.
First, if you hear that thousands of games on Itch were affected by the recent payment processor pressure, that's referring to Itch's deindexing of all NSFW games. Itch has not removed thousands of games. If you search for one of the affected games, even by its exact title, it won’t show up in the search results, but these games are still on the platform and can be viewed via direct links, Itch collections, the creator's Itch page, etc.
Second, an unknown number of games have been actually removed/suspended from the platform. Collective Shout’s July 11th open letter to payment processors calls out “games featuring rape, incest and child sexual abuse,” and it seems that the games Itch has removed have been ones that focused on those topics. I'm not aware of any removed games that were not about incest or sexual assault.
You can view the tags that were on removed games by adding “/data.json” to the end of the game's Itch page's URL. I've checked several removed games and seen that they had the tags "rape" or "incest". Others I know of that did not have either of those tags mentioned incest in the game's description. It thus seems that Itch is targeting for removal any games with metadata indicating rape- or incest-related content. They don't appear to be taking into consideration how each game portrays such content.
If Itch remains set on bowing to pressure from payment processors (and if payment processors remain set on bowing to pressure from Collective Shout), I hope that they'll at least reconsider banning games that focus on the trauma of sexual assault and abuse. I could understand a platform agreeing not to host games that celebrate sexual assault, but I definitely have a problem with refusing to allow content about the trauma SA causes.
CONTENT WARNING: DISCUSSION OF SEXUAL ASSAULT & NSFW/ADULT WORKS IN THIS POST.
Of all the games itch.io chose as a reason to suspend me . . .
They didn't choose the NSFW erotica.
They didn't choose the ones about kink.
They choose the one that depicts a man's disbelief & pain over being sexually assaulted.
What. The. FUCK.
(Twitter) (Bluesky)
So, in case you missed it on the above sites, itch.io (the indie game site where I host my projects) has decided to ban my 2018 release Bi Lines (they say "suspend", but it's not a decision you can fight/reverse, and it's a restriction that lasts forever, not for a limited amount of time).
Currently, itch.io has delisted all NSFW/erotic projects on the site, and is banning certain ones in order to adhere to payment processors' stricter rules on what content they'll allow (which they have done thanks to a group in Australia called Collective Shout). itch.io has made a statement on all of this here.
However, Bi Lines is not a NSFW game, nor is it meant to be erotic. It's a game about a bisexual journalist in the 1980s who is sexually assaulted. As the player, we experience his turmoil, conflicted feelings, and trauma. In no way is this game meant to arouse. But it was banned anyway. The picture at the beginning of this post is the main part of the email I received about that.
I decided to respond to the email today in the hopes that the game can get unbanned. Here's what I said:
So, that's already frustrating enough, but it doesn't stop there.
Like I said, all NSFW/erotic projects on itch.io are delisted. This has affected my NSFW account's projects on there, and destroyed discoverability for the time being. That account makes about half of my income atm, mainly through Patreon subscriptions to access games. If my NSFW games on itch.io get banned, that is going to destroy my livelihood; I'm terrified of that happening. I discuss this in more detail here.
I know a lot of people are very worried right now, and that includes me. Payment processors should not be able to wield this much power over our purchases, and they shouldn't be able to be pressured by some conservative group. Those kinds of organizations are ALWAYS gonna push the goalpost further once they get what they want.
If you want to help, sign this petition, and contact the payment processors--they are directions on how to do so in this article by my friend Radiant. Also, here's a writeup on DoktorHobo with some insight on how calling helps.
Itch updated their Creator FAQ and now indicates the following
The following is a non-exhaustive list of prohibited themes present in card processing networks. We are unable to support the sale of any works containing these topics:
Non-consensual content (real or implied)
Underage or “barely legal” themes
Incest or pseudo-incest content
Bestiality or animal-related
Rape, coercion, or force-related
Sex trafficking implications
Revenge porn / voyeur / hidden cam
Fetish involving bodily waste or extreme harm (e.g., “scat,” “vomit”)
It’s almost impossible to come up with an exhaustive list of unacceptable products to sell, so often we have to take content reviews one at a time. If an issue arises with your account that isn’t already covered by our policy, then we will contact you and share what options you may have.
If you've collected money while in violation of terms, we may be forced to refund or freeze all pending transactions, as accounts that are in violation of our terms are not eligible for payouts.
As well as:
Our policy is not an invitation to push the boundaries of what is acceptable. Violations that result in administrative action are permanent with no chance of appeal. Any funds on the account will not be eligible for payout. There is no second chance.
things I would do if you're a nsfw/kink creative now because I've been eerily prescient about every single wave:
a) get a personal site with your own domain you own. now. not a carrd or third party squarespace. not next week. now. get it online with ugly-ass html but get your links there.
b) if you have the money: join one or multiple of eff.org / cbldf.org / freespeechcoalition.com
partly because they're actively fighting this, partly because they have members-only Lawyers You Might Need. Hint. Hint. Canary.
c) Write Down Those Lawyer Contact Numbers in meatspace. phone number of a real human being especially on paper, On You.
I have been in contact with lawyers for a few months now as my doujin circle knows. this should be telling you Many Things.
d) www.ecrater.com is where i'm going to be tentatively testing a shop because i like the fact you can *not* have payment processes and order digital/physical products via purely mail order.
(... be prepared for this to fall through too in the next 1-6 months.)
e) friends and followers of nsfw artists who earn most of their income through it: now's the time to support them. they're going to need the grace and financial flexibility especially mental health wise. domain/shop transfer/refund/therapy bills ain't free.
check in on them, and often.
f) get a VPN, use it daily to acclimatize, have them on your hard drive, several VPN's preferable. this is for the age verification laws coming. Start reading up on secure, privacy-focused infrastructure (prioritize email > website > shop in that order).
eff.org has a *ton* of resources.
g) prepare for discord and tumblr to be hit in the next wave. have alternatives *and actively start using them* if they're mission critical platforms for you.
I've played with matrix though I quite fancy IRC. if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I say these things not to fearmonger but to give yourself the maximum amount of time to prepare. the pendulum *will* swing back. it did with the 80's moral panic. it will for this too.
Steam, Itch.io and the banning of explicit and LGBT+ Content. What can we do?
[All images in this post have alt/id text if you need it or want to copy paste anything]
With no warning, Itch.io, a site where many host their indie games, comics, books and more, has started purging and shadowbanning explicit and LGBT+ works. Creators got no warning. And if they were still owed payouts from these works, Itch.io is saying they won't give them their money as they 'broke the rules'. Rules that were only just set in place, with no warning, and therefore no way for creators to try and draw out their money or delete these 'offending' works before they got banned under the new rules.
So Itch.io has been the most recent to fall to the demands of a group that's been contacting Visa and Mastercard and convincing them to threaten sites/businesses with 'stop selling what we consider to be explicit content on your sites of we'll stop allowing your site to have transactions with Visa and Mastercard'. Steam folded, and now Itchio has too. And a reminder earlier this year Gumroad also stopped allowing explicit content, further back than that Patreon banned some kinks and fetishes even if it's depicted in fiction not real life, and I don't have to explain to you guys the great Tumblr explicit content ban of 2018.
And as always remember this doesn't stop with sexually explicit work as LGBT+ stories and people are often labelled as explicit and already we're seeing works being taken off Itch.io that are about LGBT+ and especially trans stories. Other non-sexually explicit works I've seen already getting shadowbanned, delisted or deleted are SFW games featuring furries/anthros, SFW dress up games (because when you take the clothes the model is nude), and the aforementioned SFW games that include LGBT+ characters and stories.
I'm compiling here information I've seen around various social medias, mostly Bluesky, because I haven't seen all these things shared over here.
I don't personally have explicit content on itch, but I had been considering one day selling things on there and I do currently have explicit content on my Patreon, my main source of income, and am terrified that Patreon is going to fold next (if anyone knows alterative for hosting audio content behind a paid subscription service please let me know so I can start maybe making a back-up in case the worst happens). Because for me personally if Patreon goes next, it's not like I can go out and easily get another job. Not only because in general finding and getting a job is difficult enough, but I'm autistic and have chronic pain and have been constantly getting sick or new pains over the last few years and don't feel safe being trans in the UK right now and all of that combined rules me out of a lot of jobs and makes me feel unsafe to apply to any. I'm so grateful I've been able to make a community around my work, but if Patreon caves next and I just leave my SFW posts on Patreon... 10% of my Patreons are signed up to the SFW tier, 90% are signed up to the explicit tier... I know if Patreon caves I will go from someone living comfortably who's searching to move out of my parents so I can live in a safer environment to someone who can no longer even afford the rent I pay to my parents. I'll try and get an alterative found and set up in case that happens and I can only hope you guys will follow me to whatever other site I have to set up... but it feels unlikely that people will get a whole new account on a whole new payment provider just to support me on a website they might never have heard of...
But what can we do right now?
A petition you can sign (international but you do have to give your name, email, and postal/zip code):

Don't know what to say on the phone? Here's a script written by timidtanuki:
Creators have had their work removed off Itch.io with no warning and since it's been removed for 'breaking the rules' (rules that were suddenly in place with no warning) they aren't entitled to get their payouts. Just like other sites such as Youtube and Twitch and Etsy, Itch.io hold onto money from their users in a wallet and then give them payouts. So there is money creators have made, are owed, that Itch.io is not giving to them.
People are recommending that if you still have works on Itch.io to turn down the revenue sharing to 0% so that Itch.io no longer takes a cut or your money if you no longer want to support Itchi.io finically but don't want to remove your works from their platform. X
Other Bluesky posts and calls to action I've seen:
radiantg.bsky.social is asking for anyone on Itch.io who got their game deindexed, removed , or payouts turned off to reach out to them (espeically if you make explicit and/or LGBT+ games) for a piece of journalism about what is happening.
sleepyhard.bsky.social is making a threat of all the games that Itch.io has censored/removed from their site search function. Obviously be aware this will include 18+ only games, games with sexual content and other dark or heavy themes.
thetransfemininereview.com wants you to reach out to them if you're a trans creator on Itch.io who is being affected by this so they can make an accurate report. they say 'authors' in their post and I'm unsure if they also want game devs to reach out.
dropdownbear.bsky.com wants you to reach out if you have purchased things on Itch.io that you can now no longer access because of this ban. they can include them in a report being filed with the Australian Consumer Commission as this may be a violation of Australian Consumer rights. If you are Australian you can no longer access things you purchased of Itch.io you can report directly with this guide.
It's a scary time for adult creators and sex workers. It's a scary time to be trans. Support creators. And if anyone knows of any alternate payment providers that allow explicit work, and/or alternate websites to Itch (and in case things get worse, also give me Patreon alternates please) where people can host, sell and/or offer paid subscriptions to writing, images, videos, audios, games and more please leave them in the replies. And please help share this post, the posts I'm linking too, and any other resources you can find.
Minors DNI. Ageless blogs DNI. I want resources and help but I don't reply to this post or follow this blog if you're under 18, this is an explicit blog and not for anyone under 18.
We have “deindexed” all adult NSFW content from our browse and search pages. We understand this action is sudden and disruptive, and we are
they'll manually check the games' content for the payment processors, but it will probably take an indeterminate amount of time, and it's unlikely communication will get better either...
Itch doesn't have the resources of a platform like Steam unfortunately...
