Request by Anon: Hi! I was wondering if you could write a Stark!Reader where she really likes Peter and confesses to him but he doesn't like her back and/or goes to somebody else and she's really sad at first but then she starts to love herself more and spend more time with her family friends and just growing stronger overall? I'm sorry if that's a lot to follow
A/N: Sorry it’s short and also that it’s more narrated than interactions but I was feelin’ it. Enjoy! No picture this time.
Being a teenager was not all that it was cracked up to be. First there was pressure from school, you had to get top marks otherwise everyone would think that Tony Stark’s daughter was an idiot. Then there was having to be popular and being friends with people, you were never sure if people actually liked you or if they just pretended to. Next came the peer pressure, yeah you liked someone but you weren’t sure if they liked you back. So, you were alright with being single, until all your close friends started dating guys and you were the odd one out.
You wished every single night that Peter would ask you out. That you could actually be good enough for him to. But as the pressure from your friends became more and more, you found yourself hunting Peter down a few days into your Christmas break.
“Hey, Y/N,” He greeted, a lopsided smile on his face. He was working in the lab, your dad was away, it was the perfect time.
“Peter, can I ask you something?” You started, right off the bat. Your hands were shaky so you shoved them in your hoodie pocket.
He set his work aside. “Yeah of course, what’s up?”
You looked down at your feet, then up at him, then over to Dum-E who was just off to the side enough of Peter that you didn’t have to fully look at him. “I… I was wondering if you maybe wanted to go on a date with me sometime?” The words quickly tumbled out of your mouth. You face grew hot and red as you watched his smile fade.
A blush of his own rose up on his face, but not one like yours, more so because he felt on the spot and didn’t really know how to answer you. He rubbed the back of his neck. “U-um I… Y/N I’m flattered, really but I’m… I’m already seeing someone. I’m sorry.”
Oh how you wanted to cry, but you would not let yourself in front of him. “Don’t be sorry,” You said quickly. “I shouldn’t have asked, of course you have a girlfriend, why wouldn’t you? I’m sorry Peter, I didn’t want to make things weird but I definitely have. I’ll see you around,” You left the lab so quickly.
Peter tried to stop you, he didn’t want you to be upset, nor sorry. But you were gone already, your heart pounding wildly in your chest, your sobs not far enough away for him to not hear them.
With your confirmation that Peter did not like you back, and now knowing that you weren’t good enough for him, you locked yourself away in your room. You wished that your friends hadn’t pressured you. You wanted to take this all back. You were fine not knowing, you were fine being single. Why did you let them push you? Then when you told them all they could do was bad mouth Peter. It only made you more angry with them.
However, that let you realize that you were better off not listening to them. You would get over Peter. The best way you thought you could do that was by hanging out with your family.
You had a Christmas movie marathon with Pepper. Your dad brought you along to shop for a gift for Pepper. You practiced with Happy, just to make sure you weren’t rusty with your hand to hand, just in case. All the Avengers came for Christmas dinner, you were actually fine with Peter by that point, so it wasn’t incredibly awkward.
You were having a great time.
You even took time for yourself, you did some shopping, got a nice haircut, even got a massage. Frankly, you were feeling better than ever.
So, when break ended and you walked into school with a new confidence, your friends thought it was because you’d finally found yourself a boyfriend. Except when you told them they all immediately started naming people you could go out with.
But you stopped them all, telling them you were content not having a boyfriend. You were independent, you were happy, you didn’t need to put your focus into someone that you didn’t even like. Or for that matter someone you did like and got turned down by that you were now over. It was a great feeling. You were glad Peter turned you down, just because it gave you the chance to find your own happiness.
