sorry if this comes across as rude bc it isn't meant to be but about that wool post - I live in like a really small town and there's a woman who has her own sheep that she shears and makes the wool into like hats and stuff - why would that be bad bc it isn't like big business and she takes cares of her animals and they have to be sheared anyways??

Hi, no this isn’t rude you don’t need to apologize! I would like to also apologize if this comes off rude, it’s not my intention.

My issue with purchasing first hand wool or leather (or any animal products that are worn) is that regardless of how it was processed it results from the commercial ownership of other living creatures. The people producing and selling the wool are directly profiting from the ownership of nonhuman animals. It is on a smaller scale in the situation you’ve described, but it still involves treating the sheep like they are “designed” to serve humans, an idea which vegans reject. Further, as stated in the original post, the sheep need to be sheared because of human intervention. We did that to them.

For me personally, it wouldn’t really matter if the woman in your scenario took “good” care of her sheep, because wearing wool perpetuates the idea that the only purpose sheep have (or any nonhuman animal has) is providing for humans. I went vegan/cruelty free because I did not support this idea.

On a somewhat related note: Why are people so intent on wearing animal products? Doesn’t it weird anyone out? Doesn’t anyone think it’s weird that we all unnecessarily like wearing animal parts? Really? It skeeves me out.
