Friends to lovers with Miya Atsumu is slow.
He’s an irritant before anything else. An inconvenience on projects. The kind that pisses you off most because you have to respect the fact that he at least does the work. And pretty damn often, he actually does it well. You kinda hate how smart he is. And he still gets to be class jokester? Casually making people laugh during presentations like he doesn’t have anxiety over how much of his grade this is worth.
But his charisma is something that you’re not immune to. After a while, you two become friends. Build your course schedules so you always have one class together despite having different majors. Try to schedule the same breaks so y’all can catch lunch, and bitch about the classmates and lab partners who aren’t each other.
“Do ya wanna get married when we’re forty?”
“What?”
“If we’re both single when we’re forty… would ya marry me?”
He says it like it’s nothing.
“Awww. You scared your charm won’t last you until you’re forty?”
“No. Itd just be nice to have someone I know so well be my… forever. If we last until forty without finding someone else, it’d be nice to still be able to spend most of my life with someone”
You’re caught off guard. He still sounds casual as ever, but his cheeks are a soft pink, and he’s got a slight pout. It’s… irresistible.
“Sure. I’ll marry you when we’re forty. But! I want a real proposal then. No ring needed. Nothing big really. But I want a real proposal.”
He smiles and throws his arm around your shoulders, “Not about to slouch on a ring for the love of my life.”
You shrug him off, feigning annoyance for the clinginess you’ve grown fond of, only for him to laugh off your attempt. “Aww don’t be like that to your future husband.”
He’s unbelievably cocky. Calling himself your future husband every chance he gets. He introduces you to people as his future spouse. He laughs every time he says it… but it’s not a joke. It’s giddiness. It’s Atsumu at his happiest.
And soon enough you realize he’s not dating anymore. And he’s taking you out more, his treat.
And you realize… it would be more of a miracle if forty came, and you weren’t already married to that idiot.
