Mitch felt like he had been punched in the gut. His head was spinning, he felt like his legs were going to give out from under him.
No. No, there was no way these were real. I didn't happen. But they had to be. The evidence was in front of him.
Words were being spoken to him but he was having trouble really hearing them. His mind was racing back to that night...
A night Mitch couldn't remember.
The pictures of himself with this woman were foreign to him. Like he was having an out of body experience. He knew that was him, but he couldn't place himself there. What did he remember?
The beach. The sound of the waves. The smell of the ocean. The sand.
The sand was cold. Hands. Hands on him. The hands were cold on his bare flesh. He didn't like it. But then it became warm. And then part of him liked it. Right?
He shook his head, he could no longer deny that something happen. He...He cheated. There were always lines in his life, lines to draw in the sand on his morals.
This was always one of them. One he never wanted to cross, that he told himself he would never cross. He loved Abby, he had no doubt about. But then, why? Why did he do this?
He tried to think back on his thought from that night and nothing, nothing came to him. That hurt the most, because he wanted to know, what happened to make him cross that line?
Ultimately it didn't matter, right? After all it happened whether he could remember or not. Why should the reason matter?
Mitch shook his head, thinking, “No, It matters to me. It matters to me! The real me, he wouldn't do this, so why? Who was he? Who am I?"
"He is the man who has to live with that choice." Mitch thought before snapping back to the world.
