I’m on a one woman mission to get people to stop referring to the Scottish language as slang. Its a dialect. A legitimate sub-language in its own right, thank you very much. It is not slang. This is not opinion but fact.

Its like a sub-dialect of English, so the syntax is generally the same and it can be used inter-changably with English i.e. when speaking I could say half the sentence in Scots and half in English and it would make sense.

To demonstrate Scots isn’t slang, i’m gonna write a (almost) complete sentence in it:

‘Thon wee glaikit lassie ben there is in a right wee crabbit fankle, ken?’
