Warning Spoilers! The own Director doesn’t understand his own movie anymore!
They did what? Remove the line not so fireproof and made Hiccup silent in the downed dragon scene. I mean wtf. And also Berk is now some kind of democracy, because Astrid works hard to be chief and Hiccup was all served on a silver plate, which makes for both characters no sense at all. The first movie was the one where we start Hiccups development of becoming a leader. I‘m sorry I really love Astrid as a character but giving her Hiccups development feels very wrong and out of place. The scene where Stoick kneels before Toothless is cut. And the soundtrack is the same with a few added things, it sounds more grounded and is much more sweeping. Also Dean DeBlois himself said he doesn’t like this live action remake.
I know I said I won’t care anymore and won’t talk about it anymore but this just made me so furious, because I still had a little bit of hope that it could be good. But this is just god damn awful. I mean wtf! I mean I knew it would be bad, but this is on another level of gaslighting the fans. First he lied to us about it not being shot for shot and now this. How can the guy who made a wonderful trilogy doesn’t understand his own story anymore?
Okay so maybe I'm looking way too into this, but I think I know where Hiccup and Toothless are in this scene, or what the animators of this location were possibly inspired by;
There is a Scottish Island named 'Staffa' (meaning 'Pillar Island' in Old Norse language) which has the same rock formations (see below):
These rocks are the result a volcanic eruption, with basalt/lava cooling and solidifying into these 'pillars' which are also on the coast of Ireland at the 'Giant's Causeway' as seen here:
There is actually a Myth surrounding these two areas and how the rocks were formed~
The legend goes that an Irish giant had a rivalry with a Scottish giant. The Irish giant decided to build this causeway from Ireland to Scotland so that he could challenge his rival to a battle. The Scottish giant used to causeway of pillared rocks to walk to Ireland, and the Irish giant, realizing that his rival was much bigger than he was, ran home to his wife for advice. His wife cleverly disguised her husband as a baby, making the Scottish giant believe that the Irish giants offspring was really that big. Scared by this, the Scottish giant thought that if the baby was that big, the father would be huge, and so he fled back to Staffa.
I've actually been to the Giant's Causeway and for whatever reason I never noticed this until now... I just thought this might have been interesting!
