It's a miracle both of you managed to even make it past the talking and dating stage—it's the blessing of the Soul King himself that you both even got married. WHAT makes you think you can divorce this man?
That's the funniest joke you've told him all day, and he's been bored for a long time. You being worried and all about him dying please had started to wear him down. Why was him fighting suddenly a problem? You knew about it way before you got married! Why the change of heart?
So, a 'divorce' between you and Kenpachi seems like less of a divorce and more of a really long bickering match that's had him sleeping in his own barracks for a few centuries too long. To be fair, he does somewhat acknowledge that you two are divorced, but largely not. He never really signed the papers anyway. He's more confused if anything, but he gets the basics. What he doesn't quite get is why the hell other men suddenly think it's okay to come chat you up as if he isn't hovering over you 24/7. Those brave stupid men never saw the light of day again. He made sure of it. And unfortunately, you knew it too.
"What is the matter with you?!" he always did like the sound of your yelling. It reminded him of the bite you had in spite of your lack of physical strength. "He was gettin' too comfy. Didn't like it," he grumbled, not cracking an eye open at your fuming. This is one of the many reasons for the divorce. He NEVER listens. He just takes what he wants and expects people to accept it or fight back just because he's bored. That's not to say you also couldn't do what you wanted when it came to him. Goodness. He had a surprising amount of patience when it came to any shenanigans you and Yachiru pulled, and he hardly cared as long as both of you were happy and no one ruined your fun. Still, while you didn't take much advantage of it—because unlike Zaraki, you were mannered—he wasn't as courteous.
He cared very little for the so-called 'divorce' and your wishes to be left alone. Sometimes, you would wake up in the middle of the night because you felt another presence after you had gone to sleep alone, only to find him sleeping very soundly next to you with his arm draped over your stomach. It never failed to scare you. He never cared, though he did get good laughs out of it. It did start working on you, though. It had gotten to a point that he didn't really tried to hide that he blatantly stalked you or chased off men who tried to court you. Even as you worked in the 4th, you could always feel his presence from afar somewhere, somehow. His biggest giveaway was the pink-haired little girl by his side 24/7, who had a tendency to appear out of nowhere—"Kenny's lady!"—to either ask for snacks or to nag you about anything really.
Still, that you no longer shared a home with him didn't change the fact that he was still yours and you his. Even as you physically fled from him (and managed to escape multiple times due to his abysmal sense of direction), even after all the times you've yelled at him to get out of your house, even after all the genuine fights, he's never left. "Stop it," he said firmly, grabbing the hand that was ready to throw the next object at his face. The seriousness of his voice had quickly jolted you back to reality. "I ain't leaving," it was a declaration if anything. And the way he had said it made you acutely aware of how right he was.
He isn't going anywhere. No matter how far you run, how good you hide, or how many times you lose him in a chase—he'll be there to catch up to you eventually. "We slept in the same bed for centuries—made you scream loud, too. You honestly think I'm leaving just because you're angry?" he's been angry plenty of times and he's never left, he thinks. Why should he leave you? What kind of husband would be if he had left his spouse just because of a centuries-long temper tantrum? Nah. He'll let you play this little game of cat and mouse however long you want to. But leave you? Not happening. If he leaves you, that means he's dead and so far, from what he's aware of, he's pretty much unkillable.
That's his love for you. Persistent, possessive, borderline obsessive (in his own way), and very, very clingy. You won't be getting rid of him any time soon. If you do, you're either dead or he's dead. Simple, right?
