i like reading through the first of book again and seeing that there isn’t really any mention of Darquesse and sometimes i wonder if possibly she was an arc that was thought of at the VERY beginning, or if she was something that sprang to Derek’s mind half way through writing and planning ... but i do like thinking, that --- Darquesse having always been there in the back of Steph’s mind, that she had been influencing a young Stephanie all along. the tantrums, the crying, feeling angry, the jealously that young girls ALWAYS feel and go through. the phase of parents getting you so worked up that you say some things you never meant to say.

imaginary friends. of course Stephanie would have had to have an imaginary friend, but what if SHE wasn’t imaginary --- what if it was Darquesse trying to manifest herself onto Steph’s sub conscience, but she wasn’t powerful enough, every time Steph got sick, every time she hurt others by accident on the playground ...

that THAT was all Darquesse, that Stephanie had always been split in half. that Stephanie, who eventually GREW into Valkyrie and grew into her powers, grew comfortable with the MAGIC world and the way things worked, that it caused her to lose who she was without magic and without Skulduggery.

i also like wondering about what if Stephanie never met Skulduggery at the funeral, wondering if Darquesse would never have come to power, never would have GOTTEN control over Valkyrie. or if it would have been ten times worse and the world would have gone up in flames and smoke.

i like thinking about these things.
