I created this piece for an independent study I'm doing in college! It features Juramaia sinensis, the earliest currently known basal eutherian! Known from one fossil specimen found in Liaoning Province, China, it pushed back the evolution of eutherians by over 30 million years. The species is from around 160 MYA while Eomaia scansoria, the previously earliest known eutherian, lived around 125 MYA. In this drawing, I also feature a moth species, Oregramma illecebrosa, which features an eye spot, something originally thought to have no evolved yet. In the foreground, I also depict Eboracia lobifolia, a fern species found in the same time and location.
